Women in the Fine Arts, from the Seventh Century B.C. to the Twentieth Century A.D.

  • Categories: Art

In studying the subject of this book I have found the names of more than a thousand women whose attainments in the Fine Arts—in various countries and at different periods of time before the middle of the nineteenth century—entitle them to honorable mention as artists, and I doubt not that an exhaustive search would largely increase this number. The stories of many of these women have been written with more or less detail, while of others we know little more than their names and the titles of a few of their works; but even our scanty knowledge of them is of value. Of the army of women artists of the last century it is not yet possible to speak with judgment and justice, although many have...

Until this volume was compiled, the results of the 1920 Olympics held in Antwerp, Belgium, have been far from complete. The Antwerp organizing committee typed up a report of the results almost as an afterthought because it was so financially strapped after the games. For some events only the medalists are listed, with little, if any, additional information. Very few copies were ever produced, and those few copies were in French. The seventh in a series on the early Olympics, this work fills a gap in the recording of early Olympics history by providing complete results for all competitors and all events (except for shooting, which has only partial information available). In virtually all cases, a 1920 source has been used in preference to a more modern source of information, and all details have been fully researched in contemporary newspapers, journals, and magazines and checked for accuracy by experts on various sports from all over the world.

Only love can heal a broken heart… Two years after abruptly leaving his residency in America—and the woman he loved—Nicolas Frederick Hansen, billionaire and Crown Prince of the Isle of Mynia, is determined to make his country’s children’s hospital the best in the world. Nic lost his brother years ago, but he found new purpose in following his brother’s footsteps, studying pediatric medicine. He adores children, though he’s nowhere near ready to have his own. When former flame Summer Rand shows up at his hospital for a fellowship program, she’s astounded to discover that the man who abandoned her years ago is secretly a Crown prince! And Nic is equally shocked when she reveals they have son named Harry. Determined to make it work, they agree to focus on their child… But the passion they could never deny soon consumes them both. And it isn’t long before dreams of a perfect family clash with Nic’s devotion to his new career. Can the two of them make this royal romance work? Or will they lose their shot at a future they never thought they could have?
