Algebra and Coding Theory
This volume contains the proceedings of the Virtual Conference on Noncommutative Rings and their Applications VII, in honor of Tariq Rizvi, held from July 5–7, 2021, and the Virtual Conference on Quadratic Forms, Rings and Codes, held on July 8, 2021, both of which were hosted by the Université d'Artois, Lens, France. The articles cover topics in commutative and noncommutative algebra and applications to coding theory. In some papers, applications of Frobenius rings, the skew group rings, and iterated Ore extensions to coding theory are discussed. The Origin and Significance of Zero
Zero has been axial in human development, but the origin and discovery of zero has never been satisfactorily addressed by a comprehensive, systematic and above all interdisciplinary research program. In this volume, over 40 international scholars explore zero under four broad themes: history; religion, philosophy & linguistics; arts; and mathematics & the sciences. Some propose that the invention/discovery of zero may have been facilitated by the prior evolution of a sophisticated concept of Nothingness or Emptiness (as it is understood in non-European traditions); and conversely, inhibited by the absence of, or aversion to, such a concept of Nothingness in the West. Codes and Association Schemes
This volume presents papers related to the DIMACS workshop, "Codes and Association Schemes". The articles are devoted to the following topics: applications of association schemes and of the polynomial method to properties of codes, structural results for codes, structural results for association schemes, and properties of orthogonal polynomials and their applications in combinatorics. Papers on coding theory are related to classical topics, such as perfect codes, bounds on codes, codes and combinatorial arrays, weight enumerators, and spherical designs. Papers on orthogonal polynomials provide new results on zeros and symptotic properties of standard families of polynomials encountered in coding theory. The theme of association schemes is represented by new classification results and new classes of schemes related to posets. This volume collects up-to-date applications of the theory of association schemes to coding and presents new properties of both polynomial and general association schemes.
