Visualization in Human-Computer Interaction
This volume presents a selection of the contributions to the Seventh Workshop on Informatics and Psychology. The theme of the workshop was Visualization in Human-Computer Interaction. Visualization is nowadays recognized as an important aspect of user-oriented human-computer interfaces. Both informatics and psychology are concerned with this topic. In informatics, the technology is being developed which makes visualization and interaction based on visual concepts feasible. Another important trend in informatics is the development of prototypical solutions. Visual programming, visual languages, graphical interfaces, visual representations and many other keywords characterize current efforts in this field. Psychologists are working on the question of how people represent knowledge visually and how they can take advantage of visual representations when solving tasks.
The United States Football League, 1982-1986
One of the most ambitious (and short-lived) endeavors in professional sports history, the United States Football League was founded in 1982. Deep Oil Spills
The demand for oil and gas has brought exploration and production to unprecedented depths of the world’s oceans. Currently, over 50% of the oil from the Gulf of Mexico now comes from waters in excess of 1,500 meters (one mile) deep, where no oil was produced just 20 years ago. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill blowout did much to change the perception of oil spills as coming just from tanker accidents, train derailments, and pipeline ruptures. In fact, beginning with the Ixtoc 1 spill off Campeche, Mexico in 1979-1980, there have been a series of large spill events originating at the sea bottom and creating a myriad of new environmental and well control challenges.
