Dante's Persons

Dante's Persons is a study of the concept of personhood in Dante's Comedy. Focusing on the encounters staged in Purgatory and Paradise, the book shows how Dante redefines personhood in his otherworlds as depending on mutual recognition and interpersonal attention. The book argues that Dante fills his text with characters that readers are meant to relate to as persons. He accomplishes this by means of dense corporeal detail, suchas gestures and postures. Building from this possibility of recognizing characters as persons, Dante's text offers readers opportunities to act and to join the community that extends between the living and the dead.

This book contains all the marriages which took place in Blount County, Alabama between the years 1920 and 1942. Images of the original documents from the Blount County Court House were examined page by page and transcribed. Not only was the primary information recorded, but other significant details were gathered such as names of bondsmen, names of officials performing the ceremony, names and relationships of those granting permission, and the location of the ceremony. Plus, volumes and page numbers were recorded to provide for better documentation. Additionally, details of all licenses returned unexecuted were recorded. Beginning in 1936 the State of Alabama required more information on their marriage licenses including full birthdates and full names of both parents. This information was included if reported. This book is a handy tool for those with ancestors in Blount or adjoining counties.

Dante's Lyric Redemption

Dante's Lyric Redemption offers a re-examination of two strongly interrelated aspects of the poet's work: the role and value he ascribes to earthly love and his relationship to the Romance lyric tradition of his time. It argues that an account of Dante's poetic journey that posits a stark division between earthly and divine love, and between the secular lyric poet and the Christian auctor, does little justice to his highly distinctive and often polemical handling of these categories. The book firstly contextualizes, traces, and accounts for Dante's intriguing commitment to love poetry, from the 'minor works' to the Commedia. It highlights his attempts, especially in his masterpiece, to overc...
