Before the crew of the Infiltrator became comrades in arms they lived ordinary lives with ordinary hopes and dreams. But their lives were turned upside down by war. Born on different worlds and brought together by a common cause, they become reluctant players in a war that endangers them all. And now fate threatens to tear them apart. The lives of those they love and everything they hold dear hang in the balance. As the war between the Alliance and the Galactic Star Empire rages on, Leahcim, Markka, Cora, and their friends find themselves caught in the middle of a struggle that could soon see the demise of the Alliance and the rise of a totalitarian regime ruling the galaxy. To protect and preserve their homeworlds, they will make difficult choices. Will their choices determine whether they become heroes and legends or simply be forgotten? And what will the consequences of those choices be? Only time will tell. All great sagas have a beginning. For the crew of the Infiltrator, this is theirs.
This volume gathers together reflections on racism and nationalism, empowerment and futurity. It focuses on collective amnesia in regards to traumatic events of the European past and the ways in which memory and history are presented for the future. The essays cover and oppose the seemingly disparate genocides committed during Belgian colonialism, Austrian antisemitism and turbo-nationalism in “Republika Srpska” (Bosnia and Herzegovina), implying by no means a homogenization of the experiences. What connects these historical situations is the fact that, despite available documents, to this very day, nation-states are built on practices of oblivion regarding their past. This volume is indispensable for theoreticians, philosophers, and historians, as well as the general public. It expresses the demand to critically question our inherited knowledge and to rethink the past for a new future of conviviality.
Revolutionary War veterans began buying land in the Madeira area in the 1790s. Family farms and orchards blossomed throughout the rural landscape for the first six decades. The coming of the Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad and establishment of a freight station in 1866 precipitated the communitys creation and gave it the name Madeira, chosen for the surname of the rail lines treasurer. Public schools, churches, and small businesses developed to serve a flourishing new population. Madeira incorporated in 1910, and citizens began a century of hard work, service, and neighborliness that makes the official motto of friendly town especially apt. Images contributed by the Madeira Historical Society, community groups, and residents provide insights into the communitys rich history and enduring charm.
