"Witchcraft" and exorcism have long been dominant features of life in African cultures. This unique book provides a thorough, field research-based description and analysis of a specifically Pentecostal Christian response to these phenomena within the Akan culture of Ghana. Anthropological studies generally claim that the ultimate goal of exorcism is modernisation. Using interdisciplinary studies with a theological focus, the author takes a different view, arguing that it is divinatory consultation or an inquiry into the sacred and the search for meaning that underlies the current "deliverance" ministry, where the focus is to identify and break down the so-called demonic forces by the power o...

Apostles and Prophets

This book is an attempt to trace and find out the role of apostles and prophets in the Bible, and then share these in a practical way to help the church of today. It distinctively goes beyond the purview of the New Testament into the Old Testament, and some ancient literature, to bring out the wealth and depth of the subject, and then makes a case for it. Among others, this book deals with the call of God, the constitution and functions of a prophet and of an apostle, Spiritual gifts, the difference between apostles and prophets, and how to test the manifestation of the Spirit. One important issue, which this book addresses, is how the leadership of the church dropped from apostles to bishops. You will enjoy reading it.

In this Centre for Pentecostal Theology Short Introduction to Spiritual Warfare, African Pentecostal theologian and church leader, Opoku Onyinah offers a helpful introduction to and overview of a much debated and controversial topic for the parish as well as the academy. Part One is devoted to an overview of what people are saying about spiritual warfare, territorial warfare, and an initial identification of some problems with the spiritual warfare paradigm. Part Two offers a biblical redefinition of spiritual warfare, and the way in which Jesus' own victories serve as a paradigm for the believer. Part Three focuses on spiritual strongholds that are evidence of a variety of Satan's schemes. In Part Four, Onyinah identifies and defines the weapons Christians have at their disposal when doing battle with Satan and those under his sway, with an entire chapter devoted to deliverance - offering guidance on how to discern when deliverance is needed. The author of an academic work on 'Witchdemonology', in this book Dr Onyinah makes his theological training and ministerial experience accessible to those seeking basic practical guidance on this topic.

This series of notes is taken from sermons, which I have preached and, as a pastor, will continue to preach. For the insight they provide, many listeners have requested that they are put into a book for wider public consumption. They help preachers to get some ideas to enrich their own preaching. This eighth volume contains more sermon notes and other helps in worship. First on the list is a survey of worship in the Bible. This helps a person who wants to get a good grasp of what is meant by worship to get going. All the important aspects of worship in the Bible are brought to light. For example, worship before the Law, during the Law and after the Law are discussed. Examination is made into the introduction of synagogue worship and its relevance in worship of the New Testament church. Music and its importance in worship are looked at. The climax is the conversation between Jesus and the woman of Samaria, which appears to be the core of the New Testament worship.

Second-Generation African Pentecostals in the West

The rise of African Pentecostal and Charismatic churches in the West has become a growing phenomenon and a starring feature in many social, religious, and political conversations. Most of these discussions are generally centered on the first-generation churches and their missionary attempt to evangelize the West. In this book, Caleb Nyanni offers a fresh insight into the African diaspora church from the perspective of the growing second-generation members and their contributions to the life of the church. He explores the changing nature of the African diaspora Pentecostalism by paying close attention to the Church of Pentecost in the United Kingdom, which serves as a case study. The book explores the frustrations, challenges, opportunities, and culture of the second generation and examines what they bring to Pentecostalism in general.
