The account book for an Oxford, Mass., general store, for the period 1817 to 1818, consists of customer lists, with numbers assigned to each patron, the date and items purchased, and the amount. Several prominent townspeople are included in the lists. The book also contains many newsclippings of the 1830s that have been pasted over the pages. They include news stories, anecdotes, and poetry, primarily concerning the subjects of slavery, women, and moral uplift tales.
