Vector bundles and their associated moduli spaces are of fundamental importance in algebraic geometry. In recent decades this subject has been greatly enhanced by its relationships with other areas of mathematics, including differential geometry, topology and even theoretical physics, specifically gauge theory, quantum field theory and string theory. Peter E. Newstead has been a leading figure in this field almost from its inception and has made many seminal contributions to our understanding of moduli spaces of stable bundles. This volume has been assembled in tribute to Professor Newstead and his contribution to algebraic geometry. Some of the subject's leading experts cover foundational material, while the survey and research papers focus on topics at the forefront of the field. This volume is suitable for both graduate students and more experienced researchers.
Affine flag manifolds are infinite dimensional versions of familiar objects such as Graßmann varieties. The book features lecture notes, survey articles, and research notes - based on workshops held in Berlin, Essen, and Madrid - explaining the significance of these and related objects (such as double affine Hecke algebras and affine Springer fibers) in representation theory (e.g., the theory of symmetric polynomials), arithmetic geometry (e.g., the fundamental lemma in the Langlands program), and algebraic geometry (e.g., affine flag manifolds as parameter spaces for principal bundles). Novel aspects of the theory of principal bundles on algebraic varieties are also studied in the book.
This volume comprises selected papers from the 21st Conference on System Modeling and Optimization in Sophia Antipolis, France. It covers over three decades of studies involving partial differential systems and equations. Topics include: the modeling of continuous mechanics involving fixed boundary, control theory, shape optimization and moving bou
This volume contains the proceedings of the VBAC 2022 Conference on Moduli Spaces and Vector Bundles—New Trends, held in honor of Peter Newstead's 80th birthday, from July 25–29, 2022, at the University of Warwick, Coventry, United Kingdom. The papers focus on the theory of stability conditions in derived categories, non-reductive geometric invariant theory, Brill-Noether theory, and Higgs bundles and character varieties. The volume includes both survey and original research articles. Most articles contain substantial background and will be helpful to both novices and experts.
Celebrating the work of renowned mathematician Jerome A. Goldstein, this reference compiles original research on the theory and application of evolution equations to stochastics, physics, engineering, biology, and finance. The text explores a wide range of topics in linear and nonlinear semigroup theory, operator theory, functional analysis, and li
This volume contains the proceedings of the Conference on Representations of Algebras - Sao Paulo (CRASP), held at the Instituto de Matematica e Estatistica of the Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil. It discusses Hopf, tubular, quasischurian, wild hereditary, concealed-canonical Artin, Brauer star, and Koszul algebras.
This extraordinary compilation is an expansion of the recent American Mathematical Society Special Session celebrating M. M. Rao's distinguished career and includes most of the presented papers as well as ancillary contributions from session invitees. This book shows the effectiveness of abstract analysis for solving fundamental problems of stochas
Featuring presentations from the Fourth International Conference on Commutative Algebra held in Fez, Morocco, this reference presents trends in the growing area of commutative algebra. With contributions from nearly 50 internationally renowned researchers, the book emphasizes innovative applications and connections to algebraic number theory, geome
Polynomial Identities and Combinatorial Methods presents a wide range of perspectives on topics ranging from ring theory and combinatorics to invariant theory and associative algebras. It covers recent breakthroughs and strategies impacting research on polynomial identities and identifies new concepts in algebraic combinatorics, invariant and representation theory, and Lie algebras and superalgebras for novel studies in the field. It presents intensive discussions on various methods and techniques relating the theory of polynomial identities to other branches of algebraic study and includes discussions on Hopf algebras and quantum polynomials, free algebras and Scheier varieties.
Based on the proceedings of the International Conference on Stochastic Partial Differential Equations and Applications-V held in Trento, Italy, this illuminating reference presents applications in filtering theory, stochastic quantization, quantum probability, and mathematical finance and identifies paths for future research in the field. Stochastic Partial Differential Equations and Applications analyzes recent developments in the study of quantum random fields, control theory, white noise, and fluid dynamics. It presents precise conditions for nontrivial and well-defined scattering, new Gaussian noise terms, models depicting the asymptotic behavior of evolution equations, and solutions to filtering dilemmas in signal processing. With contributions from more than 40 leading experts in the field, Stochastic Partial Differential Equations and Applications is an excellent resource for pure and applied mathematicians; numerical analysts; mathematical physicists; geometers; economists; probabilists; computer scientists; control, electrical, and electronics engineers; and upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in these disciplines.
