A contemporary novel about a woman’s struggles in life. After her husband Harry dies suddenly in Provence, she returns to England. She meets a priest called Gabriel and then a doctor called Victor. When she is diagnosed with breast cancer she has part of her breast removed and a course of radiotherapy but she refuses chemotherapy. She decides to visit her son in New Zealand but before she leaves, Denys, her accountant, defrauds her of money. The novel ends ambiguously in New Zealand.
The World Health Report 2006
The 2006 World Health Report focuses on the chronic shortages of doctors, midwives, nurses and other health care support workers in the poorest countries of the world where they are most needed. This is particularly true in sub-Saharan Africa, which has only four in every hundred global health workers but has a quarter of the global burden of disease, and less than one per cent of the world's financial resources. Poor working conditions, high rates of attrition due to illness and migration, and education systems that are unable to pick up the slack reflect the depth of the challenges in these crisis countries. This report considers the challenges involved and sets out a 10-year action plan designed to tackle the crisis over the next ten years, by which countries can strengthen their health system by building their health workforces and institutional capacity with the support of global partners.

The Expatriate is a fast-paced thriller tracking the unfortunate adventures of an American family in Brussels. Jeffrey Tate, a well-regarded young business executive, is transferred to Belgium to head up a large American construction company's expansion efforts overseas. The Belgians convince Tate to involve his company in the project, violating a new U.S. law forbidding American business firms from entering into contracts with certain undesirable countries such as Iraq. Tate then becomes entangled in a web of blackmail, international conspiracy and murder, placing himself and his company in considerable legal trouble, while putting himself and his family in great physical danger as well, in great.
