This collection of papers offers a timely snapshot of helio- and asteroseismology in the era when SOHO/MDI instrument is about to be replaced by SDO/HMI and when the CoRoT space mission is yielding its first long-duration light curves of thousands of stars.
Erstaunlicherweise...
Peter Larner did not publish his first book until 2009, with the opening novel in the Jack Daly series of mystery thrillers. Lost in a Hurricane was followed by Deathbed Confessions and The Unfolding Path. The fusion of actual and fictitious events used in Deathbed Confessions, also produced an utterly convincing storyline in the author's historical novel Farewell Bright Star, an imaginative retelling of the first love and last days of the English poet John Keats as seen by his friend, the artist Joseph Severn. In 2013 a new collection of mysteries was created by the author. Covenant of Silence introduced forensic police officer Cally Boyce and her colleague, the ageing Detective Inspector Ashley Bertoni. The second in this thriller series is Covenant of Retribution, a story that establishes Boyce and Bertoni as an unlikely duo, but a force to be reckoned with.
In this groundbreaking work, Norman R. Petersen integrates contemporary literary-critical, sociological, and anthropological insights into the traditional arena of historical-critical methods. he demonstrates how these new approaches can be used to interpret biblical texts, especially Paul's letters. The Letter to Philemon serves as a case study. Yet Petersen focuses on the narrative world of Paul as well, for one cannot be truly understood without the other. This work articulates a sociology of letters, explores the social structures which underlie the social relations of the actors in Paul's world, and deals with the systems of belief, knowledge, and value that define the identities of these actors and motivate their actions. Here is cutting-edge scholarship.
Helioseismology has enabled us to probe the internal structure and dynamics of the Sun, including how its rotation varies in the solar interior. The unexpected discovery of an abrupt transition - the tachocline - between the differentially rotating convection zone and the uniformly rotating radiative interior has generated considerable interest and raised many fundamental issues. This volume contains invited reviews from distinguished speakers at the first meeting devoted to the tachocline, held at the Isaac Newton Institute. It provides a comprehensive account of the understanding of the properties and dynamics of the tachocline, including both observational results and major theoretical issues, involving both hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic behaviour. The Solar Tachocline is a valuable reference for researchers and graduate students in astrophysics, heliospheric physics and geophysics, and the dynamics of fluids and plasmas.
The Covenant Chronicles fuses The Covenant of Silence and The Covenant of Retribution into a single, chronologic story in three exciting parts. This new edition appeals to both new readers and those who have already enjoyed either or both of the books.
