This volume contains the proceedings of the Second Workshop of Mexican Mathematicians Abroad (II Reunión de Matemáticos Mexicanos en el Mundo), held from December 15–19, 2014, at Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas (CIMAT) in Guanajuato, Mexico. This meeting was the second in a series of ongoing biannual meetings aimed at showcasing the research of Mexican mathematicians based outside of Mexico. The book features articles drawn from eight broad research areas: algebra, analysis, applied mathematics, combinatorics, dynamical systems, geometry, probability theory, and topology. Their topics range from novel applications of non-commutative probability to graph theory, to interactions between dynamical systems and geophysical flows. Several articles survey the fields and problems on which the authors work, highlighting research lines currently underrepresented in Mexico. The research-oriented articles provide either alternative approaches to well-known problems or new advances in active research fields. The wide selection of topics makes the book accessible to advanced graduate students and researchers in mathematics from different fields.

In an effort to understand how and why democratically elected governments evade the limitations that democratic accountability and popular participation place on them, Undoing Democracy examines how democratic rule was undermined in Nicaragua in the 1990's. David Close and Kalowatie Deonandan focus their analysis on the pact struck between the country's two main parties, the Liberals and the Sandinistas, which allowed the passage of the constitutional amendments that weakened Nicaragua's basic political institutions. The authors also consider, in detail, the country's political economy as well as the roles played by civil society, the Catholic Church, and NGOs. Undoing Democracy will sharpen our understanding of democratic transition and consolidation, and will serve as an important contribution to the literature on Nicaragua, Latin American politics, and democratization.
This book contains the proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Noncommutative Rings and their Applications, held from June 12–15, 2017, at the University of Artois, Lens, France. The papers are related to noncommutative rings, covering topics such as: ring theory, with both the elementwise and more structural approaches developed; module theory with popular topics such as automorphism invariance, almost injectivity, ADS, and extending modules; and coding theory, both the theoretical aspects such as the extension theorem and the more applied ones such as Construction A or Reed–Muller codes. Classical topics like enveloping skewfields, weak Hopf algebras, and tropical algebras are also presented.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 2016 Summer School on Fractal Geometry and Complex Dimensions, in celebration of Michel L. Lapidus's 60th birthday, held from June 21–29, 2016, at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California. The theme of the contributions is fractals and dynamics and content is split into four parts, centered around the following themes: Dimension gaps and the mass transfer principle, fractal strings and complex dimensions, Laplacians on fractal domains and SDEs with fractal noise, and aperiodic order (Delone sets and tilings).
