Integral operators in spaces of summable functions

The investigation of many mathematical problems is significantly simplified if it is possible to reduce them to equations involving continuous or com pletely continuous operators in function spaces. In particular, this is true for non-linear boundary value problems and for integro-differential and integral equations. To effect a transformation to equations with continuous or completely continuous operators, it is usually necessary to reduce the original problem to one involving integral equations. Here, negative and fractional powers of those unbounded differential operators which constitute 'principal parts' of the original problem, are used in an essential way. Next there is chosen or cons...

Modern Methods in Mathematical Physics

This book provides ideas for implementing Wolfram Mathematica to solve linear integral equations. The book introduces necessary theoretical information about exact and numerical methods of solving integral equations. Every method is supplied with a large number of detailed solutions in Wolfram Mathematica. In addition, the book includes tasks for individual study. This book is a supplement for students studying “Integral Equations”. In addition, the structure of the book with individual assignments allows to use it as a base for various courses.

Extrema of Nonlocal Functionals and Boundary Value Problems for Functional Differential Equations

The non-local functional is an integral with the integrand depending on the unknown function at different values of the argument. These types of functionals have different applications in physics, engineering and sciences. The Euler type equations that arise as necessary conditions of extrema of non-local functionals are the functional differential equations. The book is dedicated to systematic study of variational calculus for non-local functionals and to theory of boundary value problems for functional differential equations. There are described different necessary and some sufficient conditions for extrema of non-local functionals. Theorems of existence and uniqueness of solutions to many...

Hydrodynamic stability theory

Hydrodynamic stability theory

The great number of varied approaches to hydrodynamic stability theory appear as a bulk of results whose classification and discussion are well-known in the literature. Several books deal with one aspect of this theory alone (e.g. the linear case, the influence of temperature and magnetic field, large classes of globally stable fluid motions etc.). The aim of this book is to provide a complete mathe matical treatment of hydrodynamic stability theory by combining the early results of engineers and applied mathematicians with the recent achievements of pure mathematicians. In order to ensure a more operational frame to this theory I have briefly outlined the main results concerning the stability of the simplest types of flow. I have attempted several definitions of the stability of fluid flows with due consideration of the connections between them. On the other hand, as the large number of initial and boundary value problems in hydrodynamic stability theory requires appropriate treat ments, most of this book is devoted to the main concepts and methods used in hydrodynamic stability theory. Open problems are expressed in both mathematical and physical terms.

Differential Operators of Infinite Order with Real Arguments and Their Applications

This book is devoted to the theory of infinite-order linear and nonlinear differential operators with several real arguments and their applications to problems of partial differential equations and numerical analysis.Part I develops the theory of pseudodifferential operators with real analytic symbols, the local representatives of which are linear differential operators of infinite order acting in the spaces of basic and generalized functions based on the duality of the spaces of real analytic functions and functionals. Applications to a variety of problems of PDEs and numerical analysis are given. Part II is devoted to the theory of Sobolev-Orlicz spaces of infinite order and the solvability of nonlinear partial differential equations with arbitrary nonlinearities.

Functional equations encompass most of the equations used in applied science and engineering: ordinary differential equations, integral equations of the Volterra type, equations with delayed argument, and integro-differential equations of the Volterra type. The basic theory of functional equations includes functional differential equations with cau

Biomat 2013 - International Symposium On Mathematical And Computational Biology

This is a book of a series on interdisciplinary topics on the Biological and Mathematical Sciences. The chapters correspond to selected papers on special research themes, which have been presented at BIOMAT 2013 International Symposium on Mathematical and Computational Biology which was held in the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on November 04 - 08, 2013. The treatment is both pedagogical and advanced in order to motivate research students as well as to fulfill the requirements of professional practitioners. There are comprehensive reviews written by prominent scientific leaders of famous research groups.
