Maritime Security Complexes of the Indo-Pacific Region

This book seeks to provide a net assessment of regional challenges and opportunities in this study of the Indo-Pacific region’s security dynamics viewed through the ‘maritime variant’ of the Regional Security Complex Theory. The objective of this volume is to ascertain the regional security dynamics and assess securitization as a driving force. It infers the scope of traditional, non-traditional, and transnational security issues and their regional impact, with a specific focus on the maritime perspectives of regional security dynamics, and also envisages the potential interplay of these factors as they continue to influence and shape future discourse.

Policy Choices in Internal Conflicts

In the course of the research project Internal Conflicts and Transnational Consequences, the CSA has published eleven volumes. These books cover three internal conflicts in India and those in Nepal, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. Each of the conflict was studied in detail with the help of experts from different disciplines and different countries. This is the final volume of the Project which consolidates the studies done earlier, aims at crystallising some useful lessons for the countries studied and also others who continue to have long running internal conflicts. The constraints in trying to resolve the conflicts by the states and addressing the nuances of the consequences are quite complex. This volume attempts to analyse these issues and helps in identifying positive and negative outcomes of the way different governing systems have addressed the conflicts. The study highlights the importance of not only understanding the major internal conflicts but also anticipating and identifying the problems and difficulties that arise from the consequences and throws up useful policy pointers.

National Security Management in Federal Structures

Beliefs about security are based on threat perceptions in the environment. Assessing security is a cognitive process based on the repertoire of beliefs that make up a person’s subjective view of reality. The issue of security can, therefore be considered in political, societal, and economic terms. Changing security beliefs are based on global trajectories and the realignment of transnational environments. For the last two decades, the international community has been concerned by the emergence of non-state actors waging war against the state in ways hitherto unknown in conventional warfare. Widespread transnational terrorism and other anti-national movements have spurred the need to reconc...

Sri Lanka At Crossroads: Geopolitical Challenges And National Interests

Having celebrated its 70th year of independence in 2018, Sri Lanka, a strategically-positioned island nation, now finds itself with the potential to be a super connector in fast-developing Asia. While carving out a place for itself in the international arena, Sri Lanka has simultaneously had to look inwards to recover and rebuild its potential, bruised by an era of colonial rule and nearly 30 years of a civil war, with two youth insurrections. This book examines these twin dimensions. First, how Sri Lanka is negotiating its international reach and the spheres of influence that extend from other Asian and world powers, and second, how the country is engaging in nation-building, from days of ra...
