This book reports on the latest technological and clinical advances in the field of neurorehabilitation. It is, however, much more than a conventional survey of the state-of-the-art in neurorehabilitation technologies and therapies. It was written on the basis of a week of lively discussions between PhD students and leading research experts during the Summer School on Neurorehabilitation (SSNR2014), held September 15-19 in Baiona, Spain. Its unconventional format makes it a perfect guide for all PhD students, researchers and professionals interested in gaining a multidisciplinary perspective on current and future neurorehabilitation scenarios. The book addresses various aspects of neurorehabilitation research and practice, including a selection of common impairments affecting CNS function, such as stroke and spinal cord injury, as well as cutting-edge rehabilitation and diagnostics technologies, including robotics, neuroprosthetics, brain-machine interfaces and neuromodulation.
Assistive Technology (AT) is an umbrella term indicating any product or technology-based service that enables people of all ages with activity limitations in their daily life, education, work or leisure. It is a highly interdisciplinary field, encompassing research, development, manufacture, supply, provision and policy. This book presents the proceedings of the 12th biennial European conference of the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe, AAATE 2013, held in Vilamoura, Portugal, in September 2013. The full papers included here cover a diverse range of subjects, including: ageing, disability and technology; accessibility in Europe; ambient assisted living; AT and Cloud computing; communication access for all; monitoring and telecare; and user perspective, to name but a few. The aim of the AAATE conference is to promote a more effective dialogue between manufacturers, researchers, developers, professionals and end users, and this book will be of interest to all those directly or indirectly involved in the field of AT.
The two-volume set LNCS 13341 and 13342 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Joint International Conference on Digital Inclusion, Assistive Technology, and Accessibility, ICCHP-AAATE 2022. The conference was held in Lecco, Italy, in July 2022. The 112 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 285 submissions. Included also are 18 introductions. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: Part I: Art Karshmer Lectures in Access to Mathematics, Science and Engineering; Digital Solutions for Inclusive Mobility: solutions and accessible maps for indoor and outdoor mobility; implementation and innovation in the area of independent mobility through digital t...
This book deals with the growing challenges of using assistive robots in our everyday activities along with providing intelligent assistive services. The presented applications concern mainly healthcare and wellness such as helping elderly people, assisting dependent persons, habitat monitoring in smart environments, well-being, security, etc. These applications reveal also new challenges regarding control theory, mechanical design, mechatronics, portability, acceptability, scalability, security, etc.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering, IWBBIO 2016, held in Granada, Spain, in April 2016. The 69 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 286 submissions. The scope of the conference spans the following areas: bioinformatics for healthcare and diseases; biomedical image analysis; biomedical signal analysis; computational systems for modeling biological processes; eHealth; tools for next generation sequencing data analysis; assistive technology for people with neuromotor disorders; fundamentals of biological dynamics and maximization of the information extraction from the experiments in the biological systems; high performance computing in bioinformatics, computational biology and computational chemistry; human behavior monitoring, analysis and understanding; pattern recognition and machine learning in the -omics sciences; and resources for bioinformatics.
The book reports on advanced topics in the areas of neurorehabilitation research and practice. It focuses on new methods for interfacing the human nervous system with electronic and mechatronic systems to restore or compensate impaired neural functions. Importantly, the book merges different perspectives, such as the clinical, neurophysiological, and bioengineering ones, to promote, feed and encourage collaborations between clinicians, neuroscientists and engineers. Based on the 2020 International Conference on Neurorehabilitation (ICNR 2020) held online on October 13-16, 2020, this book covers various aspects of neurorehabilitation research and practice, including new insights into biomecha...
"Argues that rural land and labor activism extend back to 1920s, at least in Säao Paulo state. Details interaction of rural workers with Vargas state, the Partido Comunista Brasileiro, Catholic Church, and other actors, and workers' responses to repression after 1964. Important antidote to generally ahistorical analyses of contemporary Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
