Civil Resistance and Violent Conflict in Latin America
This book explores distinct forms of civil resistance in situations of violent conflict in cases across Latin America, drawing important lessons learned for nonviolent struggles in the region and beyond. The authors analyse campaigns against armed actors in situations of internal armed conflict, against private sector companies that seek to exploit natural resources, and against the state in defence of housing rights, to cite only some scenarios of violent conflict in which people in Latin America have organized to resist imposition by powerful actors and/or confront violence and oppression. Each of the nine cases studied looks at the violent context in which civil resistance took place, its modality, its results and the factors that influenced these, as well as the challenges faced, offering useful insights for scholars and practitioners alike.
Peripheral Transmodernities
This volume is a collection of essays dealing with the critical dialogue between the cultural production of the Hispanic/Latino world and that of the so-called Orient or the Orient itself, including the Asian and Arab worlds. As we see in these essays, the Europeans’ cultural others (peripheral nations and former colonies) have established an intercultural and intercontinental dialogue among themselves, without feeling the need to resort to the center-metropolis’ mediation. These South-to-South dialogues tend not to be as asymmetric as the old dialogue between the (former) metropolis (the hegemonic, Eurocentric center) and the colonies. These essays about Hispanic and Latino cultural production (most of them dealing with literature, but some covering urban art, music, and film) provide vivid examples of de-colonizing impetus and cultural resistance. In some of them, we can find peripheral subjectivities’ perception of other peripheral, racialized, and (post)colonial subjects and their cultures.

Cultura de la gobernanza y educación para la paz
En el libro se analizan los sentidos de la gobernanza que permitan determinar lineamientos de política educativa para la paz en escenarios de conflicto y posacuerdo en Colombia y México. En el contexto de la globalización resulta necesario recuperar interpretaciones, prácticas y sentidos desde los actores locales respecto de la gobernanza con el fin de participar e impactar de manera positiva en la construcción, diseño, desarrollo e implementación de programas y proyectos de políticas públicas en favor de una Educación para la Paz en escenarios de conflicto, posconflicto y posacuerdo.
