A IV Jornada Integrada do Centro Universitário Santa Maria (UNIFSM), realizada entre os dias 1 e 2 dezembro, foi um evento voltado à comunidade acadêmica da instituição, com o objetivo de proporcionar aos discentes e docentes espaços de reflexão sobre a realidade social e as implicações na formação acadêmica, bem como em outras instâncias da vida cotidiana. Objetivou, também, permitir a partilha de produção científica, incentivando debates que contribuam para a integração entre ensino, pesquisa e extensão.

Eco-Friendly Biobased Products Used in Microbial Diseases
There are alarming reports of new and emerging microbial diseases. The recent emergence of COVID-19 is a burning example that has attracted global attention. Not only this, the development of multidrug resistance in microbes is frightening and thus the available antibiotics have been ineffective. Considering these facts, there is a pressing need to develop effective treatment options that are eco-friendly, biobased, and cost-effective. The present book covers the natural/bio-based products from plants, mushrooms and microbes that can be used against different microbial diseases caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi. The Atlantic Forest
The Atlantic Forest is one of the 36 hotspots for biodiversity conservation worldwide. It is a unique, large biome (more than 3000 km in latitude; 2500 in longitude), marked by high biodiversity, high degree of endemic species and, at the same time, extremely threatened. Approximately 70% of the Brazilian population lives in the area of this biome, which makes the conflict between biodiversity conservation and the sustainability of the human population a relevant issue. This book aims to cover: 1) the historical characterization and geographic variation of the biome; 2) the distribution of the diversity of some relevant taxa; 3) the main threats to biodiversity, and 4) possible opportunities to ensure the biodiversity conservation, and the economic and social sustainability.
