Oceanscapes

Aller has been photographing the Atlantic Ocean for over a decade from a single point on the fabled Hamilton's coastline. Her images capture the infinitely shifting colours and textures of the sky and water and the beauty and grandeur of the ocean. The sublime beauty of this view, which Aller connects with the Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich, is also a metaphor for the landscape of human emotions. Elaborately designed and printed, Aller's acclaimed series lends itself perfectly to the physical narrative of a photobook.

Aller captures the infinitely shifting colors and textures of water, sand and sky This new project by German-born photographer Renate Aller is an extension of the ongoing series and book Oceanscapes (2010). Aller has continued to make images of the ocean from a single vantage point--for which she is internationally known--but for the last several years, she has also photographed sand dunes in New Mexico and Colorado. She has now paired the resulting images in a fascinating new series that continues her investigation into the relationship between romanticism, memory and landscape in the context of our current sociopolitical awareness. There is both a visual and visceral relationship between t...

The publication takes the reader on a fantastical journey through the strange and beautiful worlds of artist, Meghan Boody. Her pictures, dioramas and photo-vitrines tell stories of young women entangled in difficult adventures . Female versions of the male heroic quest, these image-based novellas unfold in a unique brew of fairy tale, myth and personal memory. Considered a pioneer of digital imaging, Boody composites hundreds of Photoshop layers to make her heroic tableaux. Equal parts Dr Freud and Dr Frankenstein, the resulting magical environments transport the viewer into another time and place.

Sapeurs

British photographer Tariq Zaidi presents a fashion subculture of Kinshasa & Brazzaville: La Sape, Societe des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Elegantes. Its followers are known as 'Sapeurs' ('Sapeuses' for women). Most have ordinary day jobs as taxi-drivers, tailors and gardeners, but as soon as they clock off they transform themselves into debonair dandies. Sashaying through the streets they are treated like rock stars - turning heads, bringing 'joie de vivre' to their communities and defying their circumstances.

"Captured in three Tokyo parks in the early seventies, Kohei Yoshiyuki's The Park series features some intriguing photographic works of art. Shot at night using flash and infrared film, the photographs show hetero- and homosexuals gathering for furtive sexual encounters in the Shinjuku, Yoyogi, and Aoyama parks. These amorous scenes, however, are unpleasantly crowded; even before Yoshiyuki approached them with his camera, the couples had become objects of desire for voyeurs. The sixty-two photographs are presented here in duotone quality with an interview with the artist."--BOOK JACKET.

Man Ray, surrealist master and exponent of the Dada movement, managed to reinvent not only the photographic language, but also the representation of the body and face, as well as the genres of the nude and the portrait themselves.0This book brings together around 200 photographs produced from the 1920s right up to his death in 1976, all featuring female subjects. Through rayographs, solarisations and double exposures, the female body undergoes a continual metamorphosis of forms and meanings, becoming an abstract form, an object of seduction, classical memory or realistic portrait, in endless playful and refined variations. Among the protagonists of his shots are Lee Miller, Berenice Abbott, ...
