The Atlantic Forest
The Atlantic Forest is one of the 36 hotspots for biodiversity conservation worldwide. It is a unique, large biome (more than 3000 km in latitude; 2500 in longitude), marked by high biodiversity, high degree of endemic species and, at the same time, extremely threatened. Approximately 70% of the Brazilian population lives in the area of this biome, which makes the conflict between biodiversity conservation and the sustainability of the human population a relevant issue. This book aims to cover: 1) the historical characterization and geographic variation of the biome; 2) the distribution of the diversity of some relevant taxa; 3) the main threats to biodiversity, and 4) possible opportunities to ensure the biodiversity conservation, and the economic and social sustainability. Also, it is hoped that this book can be useful for those involved in the development of public policies aimed at the conservation of this important global biome.

Este «Estudos de Direito do Desporto» representa, no essencial, uma compilação de estudos cobrindo matérias diversas. Grosso modo, os temas abordados têm em comum versarem sobre o estatuto jurídico-laboral dos trabalhadores desportivos, desde a matéria do tempo de trabalho, a cessação do contrato de trabalho, tanto do desportista como do treinador, o regime dos prémios por objetivos, bem como a relação entre o atleta e o seu empresário desportivo. A estes estudos soma-se um ensaio, inédito, onde é problematizada a relação dos regulamentos desportivos com o princípio da legalidade no contexto do Direito Administrativo.
Social Change, Industrialization, and the Service Economy in São Paulo, 1950-2020
In the 1950s–80s, Brazil built one of the most advanced industrial networks among the "developing" countries, initially concentrated in the state of São Paulo. But from the 1980s, decentralization of industry spread to other states reducing São Paulo's relative importance in the country's industrial product. This volume draws on social, economic, and demographic data to document the accelerated industrialization of the state and its subsequent shift to a service economy amidst worsening social and economic inequality. Through its cultural institutions, universities, banking, and corporate sectors, the municipality of São Paulo would become a world metropolis. At the same time, given its rapid growth from 2 million to 12 million residents in this period, São Paulo dealt with problems of distribution, housing, and governance. This significant volume elucidates these and other trends during the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, and will be an invaluable reference for scholars of history, policy, and the economy in Latin America.
