Esta obra analiza las prácticas de colección que llevó a cabo Konrad Theodor Preuss (1869-1938 en sus expediciones arqueológicas y etnológicas en Colombia. Asimismo, se estudia el desarrollo de estas investigaciones, desde la forma como fue presentado el proyecto a las directivas del museo, su preparación y su desenvolvimiento en Colombia; el proceso de musealización de la colección en el Museum für Völkerkunde (Alemania, y se reflexiona sobre el lugar de la colección de Preuss en las discusiones recientes que se han llevado a cabo en Colombia, las que se encuentran relacionadas con los debates sobre el patrimonio y su apropiación.
La escritura de la historia prehispánica en Colombia
A través del análisis de la obra de Ernesto Restrepo Tirado, esta investigación se enfoca en entender cómo se escribió la historia prehispánica en Colombia a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. Este texto examina el contexto intelectual en el que Restrepo Tirado produjo su obra historiográfica, y para ello se determinó su itinerario biográfico, se describió y reflexionó acerca del proceso de elaboración de sus obras y se analizó su representación sobre los grupos prehispánicos colombianos y su relación con el debate del momento sobre “raza”, “civilización” y “barbarie”. Esta es la primera investigación que aborda con profundidad a este autor, su obra y el momento de su escritura, cuando en diferentes países de América Latina se planteó la necesidad de dar un peso temporal a la historia nacional mediante el reconocimiento de la historia prehispánica, para lo cual en el desarrollo del ejercicio histórico se comenzaron a usar las antigüedades como fuentes arqueológicas, práctica que terminó dando pie a la formalización de la antropología y la arqueología como campos científicos.

Anhand deutscher Ethnographien im Amazonasgebiet um 1900 identifiziert Johanna Fernández Castro in ihrer translations- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Analyse Praktiken der Wissensproduktion, der Sprachvermittlung und der materiell-kulturellen Aneignung als konstitutive Elemente der Kulturübersetzung. Die aktive Rolle lokaler Akteur*innen, die sich am Prozess der Wissensproduktion über ihre eigene Kultur im Kontext extrem asymmetrischer Beziehungen beteiligten, untermauert den interaktiven Charakter dieser Übersetzungspraxis.
