As a British soldier who fought against Napoleon, William Buckley served capably and truly but a drunken escapade led to his transportation to a short-lived settlement in Australia, and once there to his daring escape from custody and thirty years of isolation among the First People of the region, who saved and sheltered him. Known to his saviours as 'Murrangurk', Buckley learnt their language and forgot his own. He lived as they did and would later record - invaluably for us today - his understanding of their customs and traditions. When eventually Europeans returned and conflict between them and the First People flared, Buckley was at the heart of the tumult. He courageously stopped three massacres, but soon found himself disregarded by the antagonists and dangerously compromised.

Few things in life can change a man more than war. Author Robert Buckley can attest to this from his experience as a soldier in Korea. It was this experience that inspired him to write Ambush, a fictionalized story from his experience as a soldier in the Korean War. Drafted into the army after high school, Buckley sailed from Washington state across the Pacific, barely missing the worst of a storm that beat against the sides of the two-stacker ship. He was only too glad when they made the port in Yokohama, Japan for a few days. From there they sailed to Pusan Korea, now called Bosan, where they stayed in two-man pup tents. The tents were so dirty, Buckley sat outside all night and tried to g...

Rome, Italy. A new coin, a handsome silver denarius, is struck during the reign of the Emperor Caesar Augustus. The year is A.D. 8. Fated for an amazing journey, the coin changes multiple hands as it travels from Imperial Rome to ancient Jerusalem where it plays a key part in a life changing event. Following the rule of the mad Emperor Nero, the denarius travels with a Roman soldier to the outposts of northern Britain where it is eventually lost during battle. For over 2000 years the coin remains buried in the rural English countryside until it again sees the light of day when it is dug up by a terminally ill treasure hunter from Milwaukee, WI. Strangely, the coin appears undamaged by the ravages of time. Thus continues a puzzling series of events as the mysterious coin touches and changes the lives of not only the dying treasure hunter, but an alcoholic Catholic priest, a Mayo Clinic researcher and an abandoned Chippewa Indian girl.
