Transduction Mechanisms of Drug Stimuli
In this book the latest data available on transduction mechanisms of drug stimuli are presented. A common theme underlying the chapter in this volume is the recognition that drugs can act as stimuli, in much the same manner as external events do. Accordingly, the papers focus on the mechanisms by which these stimuli are transduced at different levels of analysis, such as the behavioral, pharmacological, and molecular levels. Some chapters discuss the mechanisms of transduction of the discriminative effects of several important classes of drugs, while others deal with the methods and research strategies by which these mechanisms can be analyzed. Collectively, the papers in this volume reflect the current status of knowledge in the rapidly expanding field of behavioral pharmacology.

The papers in this monograph were presented or read by title at the 46th annual scientific meeting of the Committee on Problems of Drug Dependence, Inc., in St. Louis, Missouri, June 4-6, 1984. The CPDD, an independent, nonprofit organization, conducts drug testing and evaluations for academic institutions, government, and industry. Louis S. Harris, the editor of the monograph, is chairman of the Department of Pharmacology, Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia.
Advances in Behavioral Pharmacology
Advances in Behavioral Pharmacology, Volume 1 provides synthetic and analytic reviews of significant areas of behavioral pharmacology, particularly the behavioral mechanisms of drug action. The book presents papers on the behavioral pharmacology of the tetrahydrocannabinols; on infrahuman ethanol self-administration; and on the discriminative stimulus properties of drugs.
