Citoyen suisse d'origine italienne, Roberto Greco est horticulteur de profession. Ses études en photographie et en communication visuelle sont plus tardives (écoles d'art Ecal et Cepv) et reflètent son parcours singulier dans le genre. Il utilise la lumière aussi méticuleusement que le pinceau d'un peintre, figeant le temps à l'instant - choisi avec une précision de chirurgien - qui nous oblige à nous arrêter et à contempler. Plus complexes qu'il n'y paraît à première vue, ses images sont pleines de métaphores et de connaissances en histoire de l'art. Roberto Greco ne lésine pas non plus sur l'humour, poussant parfois profondément dans le cynisme - soulignant des détails sans vergogne qui vont à l'encontre de la référence artistique stéréotypée. Sa démarche photographique est mi-métier, mi-recherche, avec des sujets construits avec une patience méticuleuse. L'œuvre qui en résulte, qu'il s'agisse d'un portrait de beauté ou d'une nature morte, nous invite à voir un monde bien réel, mais rempli d'émerveillement.
