The Life and Letters of Rowland Williams, D.D, Vol. 1 of 2

Excerpt from The Life and Letters of Rowland Williams, D.D, Vol. 1 of 2: With Extracts From His Note Books; Edited by His Wife Some account of his life having been desired, I have endeavoured to give to the following pages as much of an autobiographical form as might be, by making his own letters and journals speak for them selves, and merely adding the connecting links as simply as possible. ROWLAND'S HUT is a metaphor for belonging, acceptance, togetherness, safety, rescue, security, protection, significance, sanctuary & love. "A refuge for the weak, a shelter for the needy in distress" ""To give sanctuary is to bring endangered people into a place of shelter & protection"" ""To be sanctified is to be brought under the protection of God"" ""Deserts of the heart do exist. Perhaps there are fewer of them than we think. Isn't the Holy Spirit The Comforter in each one?"" (Brother Roger) Through the act of writing, I enter into an aspect of my Rowland's Hut by being productive, bringing all fragmented thoughts together to form a wholeness in purpose and expression. Within its walls, I am safe to examine this expression, allowing it to help heal my inner world, and to project my findings to the world outside. I hope that they will resonate in others, acting as an encouragement and a validation as to who we are before Man, but more importantly, before the God who loves us.

Facial Expression Recognition

In the World Library of Psychologists series, international experts themselves present career-long collections of what they judge to be their finest pieces - extracts from books, key articles, salient research findings, and their major theoretical and practical contributions. This volume of self-selected papers recognises Andy Young’s major contribution to the study of face perception, for which he received the BPS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. Focusing on his work in facial expression recognition, a specially written introduction gives an overview of his work and contextualises the selection in relation to developments in the field during this time. Divided into five distinct sections, the book covers work on both theoretical and experimental approaches to facial expression recognition, neuropsychology, functional brain imaging, and applications of research. This book will be of great interest to students and researchers of cognitive psychology or neuropsychology interested in face perception. It will also appeal to those with an interest in the highly varied applications of the research and provide insight into a number of clinical disorders.
