If Anything Happens I Love You

Unimaginable loss yields to the power of human connection in this simple, moving story from the filmmakers of the eponymous Oscar-winning film. An elegy on grief. "Heavy pain exquisitely rendered." Kirkus Starred Review Based on the Academy Award-winning animated short by the same name, If Anything Happens I Love You is a young adult graphic novel that follows two parents as they reckon with the loss of their young daughter, Rose, in a school shooting. Readers follow Rose from “above” as she watches her parents slowly break down under the weight and pain of their loss. Throughout the novel, Rose’s soul seeks to help her parents reconnect. We learn who Rose was and how much life she lived in her short time. By incorporating a wide range of characters, her boyfriend, teacher, and her cat, Rose is able to introduce healing into the lives of the people she left behind. If Anything Happens I Love You may be a story about loss, but in it we see ourselves—in the grief, the pain, and, most importantly, in the fight toward human connection, love, and acceptance.

Law and Society in the Visigothic Kingdom

The kingdom of the Visigoths, embracing at its fullest extent Portugal and part of southern France as well as virtually the whole of Spain, boasted the most sophisticated civilization to be be found in any of the Romano-barbarian states created out of the ruin of the Western Empire. Yet its fortunes have been the subject of a curious indifference by scholars otherwise well conscious of the supreme significance of the sixth and seventh centuries for a balanced understanding of the Middle Ages. Dr King makes a searching investigation into the structure and ethos of Visigothic society as it is revealed in the legal and other other sources of the time.

Globalisation, the wired planet, the global village, these are a few of the terms associated with the social and political changes that are said to describe the world at the beginning of the new millennium. One of the most important institutions of the social ordering has been that of policing, but very little has been written on how the practices of social control are affected by the processes of transnationalisation. This book brings together contributions by experts on policing that focus on some of the newly emergent policing issues connected with these changes: *the global private security industry *cross national networking between police *the establishment of an international criminal court *money laundering *policing cyberspace *the drug war Issues in Transnational Policing crosses the boundaries between criminology, international relations and international law to provide a thought-provoking picture of the complex issues surrounding the politics of policing in the future.

Despite the large amount of attention that has been paid recently to understanding the determinants of educational outcomes, knowledge of the causal effect of the most fundamental input in the education production function - students' study time and effort - has remained virtually non-existent. In this paper, we examine the causal effect of studying on grade performance using an Instrumental Variable estimator. Our approach takes advantage of a unique natural experiment and is possible because we have collected unique longitudinal data that provides detailed information about all aspects of this experiment. Important for understanding the potential impact of a wide array of education policies, the results suggest that human capital accumulation is far from predetermined at the time of college entrance.

"Much research has been conducted to provide researchers and hearing healthcare professionals with updated information in regard to hearing assessments, results interpretation and case management. This ongoing research is particularly imperative to guide clinicians with optimized methods in assessing and managing pediatric patients with hearing impairment and disability. As such, tremendous research efforts have been made in determining the most optimum methods in assessing hearing using both subjective and objective tests. Since hearing loss can occur due to disrupted peripheral and/or central auditory pathway, there is also a growing interest to study children with auditory processing diso...

While standing in the confines of that famed Milwaukeean Police Dept., camera lights flashed from all angles like a premiere of some Stephen King movie; capturing a parade of celebrities on strips of celluloid, as Jeffrey 'The Candy Man' Dahmer requested a Hershey Milk chocolate bar. One officer leaped like a jack-in-the-box to accommodate him; jerking on a silver knob of a seemingly smiling vending machine, as a piece of candy wrapped in glossy brown paper hit down with a thud, like a body in a state of rigor mortis being dropped on a hot tin roof...

"I bet you think I have forgotten you... Well, I haven't." Three brothers go off to World War II. The youngest goes to the South Pacific. The middle brother to North Africa, then Italy, then France. The oldest was posted stateside. The brothers write home-over six hundred letters. They write about basic training, their worries over car insurance, the trip overseas, the hard, endless work, their flower gardens, how much they miss their mother's fruitcake, and life in the Army. The brothers are concerned about the war, each other, and the family back home. One faces more than just the enemy. Their letters, which I found in a box in my grandmother's house, span most of the war, from March 1942 to October 1945. They showcase my grand uncles' down-to-earth humanity, as well as their heroic journeys-all in "just a few lines."
