"Lawrence" by S. L. Bensusan is an account of the life and work of Sir Lawrence Thomson (1769-1830). Lawrence was the most famous British portrait painter of the early nineteenth century, depicting most of the world's most prominent figures in his polished and appealing style. He was a self-taught child prodigy who was already drawing impressive portraits in crayon at the age of ten. During his childhood, he was inspired by Sir Joshua Reynolds, and his style did not change much during his life.
