Violated

Statistically speaking, you or someone you know has experienced a sexual violation. There’s also a high chance that you or someone you know caused one. Perhaps these incidents had a clear perpetrator and victim. Or maybe you’ve encountered one of the more complicated situations where it’s not quite so obvious that one person intentionally hurt another. Violated focuses on that messy place of unintentional, thoughtless, or perhaps even reckless consent violations. It challenges us to rethink the way gender and dating norms, intentionality, and intoxication have come to frame our social understanding of sexual consent and discusses what you, your organizations, and your government can do to help reduce the scope of sexual violation. But more than anything, this book argues that we need to develop more realistic models of “good consent” for the world we actually live in.

Interrogating the Use of LGBTQ Slurs

Interrogating the Use of LGBTQ Slurs: Still Smearing the Queer? provides a critical exploration of LGBTQ slurs through its innovative focus on hetero-cis-normativity and Norm-Centered Stigma Theory (NCST), the first-ever testable theory about stigma. Based on research with more than 3,000 respondents, the ways gender/sexuality norm-violators are stigmatized and disciplined as “others” through asserting and affirming one’s own social power are highlighted alongside other unique elements of slur use (joking and bonding). Through its fresh and in-depth approach, this book is the ideal resource for those who want to learn about LGBTQ slurs more generally and for those who seek a nuanced, t...

Harriet Jacobs

Throughout her career as a playwright, Lydia R. Diamond has boldly challenged assumptions about African American culture. In Harriet Jacobs, she turns one of the greatest American slave narratives, Harriet Jacob's Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, into a penetrating, rousing work of theater. Jacob's story - serialized in the New York Tribune until it was deemed too graphic, and eventually published in book form in 1861 - exposed the sexual harrassment and abuse of slave girls and women at the hands of their masters. Harriet Jacobs: A Play organically incorporates theatrical elements that extend the book's enormous power. Though harrowing, Harriet Jacobs undertakes the necessary task of reenvisioning a difficult chapter in American history. -- from back cover.

Who Was Who on TV

The information herein was accumulated of fifty some odd years. The collection process started when TV first came out and continued until today. The books are in alphabetical order and cover shows from the 1940s to 2010. The author has added a brief explanation of each show and then listed all the characters, who played the roles and for the most part, the year or years the actor or actress played that role. Also included are most of the people who created the shows, the producers, directors, and the writers of the shows. These books are a great source of trivia information and for most of the older folk will bring back some very fond memories. I know a lot of times we think back and say, "Who was the guy that played such and such a role?" Enjoy!
