Taking as its premise the belief that communalism is not a resurgence of tradition but is instead an inherently modern phenomenon, as well as a product of the fundamental agencies and ideas of modernity, and that globalization is neither a unique nor unprecedented process, this book addresses the question of whether globalization has amplified or muted processes of communalism. It does so through exploring the concurrent histories of communalism and globalization in four South Asian contexts - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka - as well as in various diasporic locations, from the nineteenth century to the present. Including contributions by some of the most notable scholars working on communalism in South Asia and its diaspora as well as by some challenging new voices, the book encompasses both different disciplinary and theoretical perspectives. It looks at a range of methodologies in an effort to stimulate new debates on the relationship between communalism and globalization, and is a useful contribution to studies on South Asia and Asian History.
In the twenty-first century, there has been a seismic shift in Indian political, religious and social life. The country's guiding spirit was formerly a fusion of the anti-caste worldview of B.R. Ambedkar; the inclusive Hinduism of Mahatma Gandhi; and the agnostic secularism of Jawaharlal Nehru. Today, that fusion has given way to Hindutva. This now-dominant version of Hinduism blends the militant nationalism of V.D. Savarkar; the Brahmanical anti-minorityism of M.S. Golwalkar; and the global Islamophobia of India's ruling regime. It requires deep cultural analysis and historical understanding, as only the sharpest and most profoundly informed historian can provide. For two decades, Tanika Sa...

In an age where women's empowerment is championed, there remains an often overlooked counterpart-men's education in values, ethics, and respect. Women Empowerment vs Men Education dives deep into this dual necessity, presenting twelve powerful stories of women who fight against societal oppression, and the men whose upbringing and beliefs have shaped their worldviews. Each chapter explores a different woman's journey, tackling issues like forced marriages, honor killings, workplace harassment, and family pressure. Yet, while women rise to reclaim their rights and autonomy, the novel highlights a critical truth: true societal progress requires not just the empowerment of women but the re-education of men. Without teaching men the principles of equality, empathy, and mutual respect, the cycle of violence, control, and discrimination continues. Women Empowerment vs Men Education is a bold, thought-provoking narrative that calls for balanced gender justice. It reminds us that gender equality is not just about elevating women; it's about reshaping the mindset of men, fostering mutual respect, and breaking down patriarchal norms that bind both genders.
