Around Gaithersburg

Located in the heart of Montgomery County, Gaithersburg is one of the largest cities in Maryland and home to a highly educated and diverse population. The arrival of the railroad in 1873 spurred a residential and industrial boom, making Gaithersburg the market center for Darnestown, Quince Orchard, and Hunting Hill-and the agricultural powerhouse of Montgomery County. Rare photographs of these forgotten crossroads villages, as well as surrounding farms, houses, and mills of the Gaithersburg and Germantown areas, reveal places from the past, many of which have long since disappeared from the modern landscape. Despite the loss of a number of these landmarks, many still stand due to the efforts of the citizens.

Diary of a Vigilante

'Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves'. One man's angel is another man's devil. One man's hero is another man's killer. It's a blurred line between hero and villain, between vigilante and criminal, between decent citizen and maniac - and this is where Jack finds himself. Jack is a man haunted by the failures of a justice system he feels is broken and the seemingly arbitrary punishments measured out to those who have offended the state. When his friend's family find themselves threatened by a sexual predator and let down by the police, Jack snaps, and a journey of vigilantism, anger and revenge pursues. Told from his point of view, the Diary of a Vigilante, Jack descends further into the pits of the underworld, and the man who set out to clean the streets, finds that he has become the top target of law enforcement. What price will Jack pay for his vengeance, and in a world of eye-for-an-eye justice, what sort of man will he be at the end? Will he become the very same monster he sought to destroy?

Beyond Rawls

Beyond Rawls engages one of the most provocative and influential developments in contemporary political philosophy. Focusing on the idea- as opposed to a single conception- of purely "political" liberalism, Shaun Young examines the work of a number of prominent political liberals, and concludes that as it presently manifests itself, the concept of political liberalism cannot achieve its stated goals.
