Ping-Pong Diplomacy

Combining the insight of Franklin Foer’s How Soccer Explains the World and the intrigue of Ben Affleck’s Argo, Ping Pong Diplomacy traces the story of how an aristocratic British spy used the game of table tennis to propel a Communist strategy that changed the shape of the world. THE SPRING OF 1971 heralded the greatest geopolitical realignment in a generation. After twenty-two years of antagonism, China and the United States suddenly moved toward a détente—achieved not by politicians but by Ping-Pong players. The Western press delighted in the absurdity of the moment and branded it “Ping-Pong Diplomacy.” But for the Chinese, Ping-Pong was always political, a strategic cog in Mao ...

There is a new duo in town called Blogging and Pinging. It is not a new comedy team or even a singing group, but a new way to attract visitors to your website and make more money. Blogging and Pinging is a marketing tool that can make anyone a viable website owner. Let’s start with a definition of a blog. Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site. Ok, so what about pinging? Originally, a ping was a program that bounced a request off of another computer/server over a network or the Internet to see if the remote computer was responding. That same program is now used as a method of informing others that your blog exists and also let’s them know when a new post has been made. When you put the two together – blogging and pinging – you get a technique that is extremely effective at getting ANY web site, no matter how big or small, indexed by the major search engines.

Ferrytale

Wilbur H. "Ping" Ferry (1910-1995) was a self-styled "town crank," an influential and iconoclastic figure who seemingly knew everyone worth knowing in the mid-twentieth century. Businessman, thinker, activist, government advisor, and philanthropist, Ping's career was as varied as his pronouncements. In Victor Navasky's words, his ultimate importance was "the impossible example he set for the rest of us."

Filial Piety

In a time of tense Chinese American relations, Filial Piety: Memoir of a Good Daughter relates a uniquely honest experience of a Chinese immigrant. Readers will be enchanted by Chinese traditions and swept into an eyewitness account of the White Terror, the Communist takeover of China, the Chinese American protests, and the obstacles of assimilating into American society. Yet even more powerful than the historical events is the strength of family love. The narrators dedication to her family perseveres through communist, feminist, and technological revolutions; through her stress and guilt as a working mother; and through the tragedy and deathbed triumph of her parents marriage. In one magnificent breath, Filial Piety takes in two cultures, two belief systems, and two marriages to show how this important valuefilial pietyendures.

This book is called Ping Pong for Fighters, and it's about fighting all the different elements that are attached to table tennis. The fight starts inward and eventually moves outward, from within ourselves, to the ball, to our opponents, to the environment and the external conditions. I think what's interesting about this book is that the reader takes the journey with me. All that I learned in over 20 years of competing in table tennis, is in this book. The goal of this book is to try and get the reader to approach the game differently. The book is basically a philosophy for the thinking and feeling player. A philosophy that encourages one to stay in the present moment, have self confidence and compete to the best of their ability. This book is also very direct and very easy to understand. It is not an intellectual discourse of any kind. The book reads more like a conversation consisting of helpful direction through experience and a philosophy of table tennis that is concerned more with experiencing what it feels like to think and play table tennis like a top table tennis player.

A stunning concertina detailing a night at the Ballet, which anyone with an interest in the performing arts will love! Based on a performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, the images are not only inspired by the dramatic story but also the atmosphere of a working dance venue. On one side, we see the pristine theatre, audience and performance, and on the other side, in a world away from the delicate presentation of the front stage, the back-stage bustle and nerves. A beautiful concertina that can be read as a book or displayed on a mantle piece, or even framed as a print. Suitable for all ages.
