This special volume contains the proceedings of the Symposium held on June 26, 1988 at Williamsburg, Virginia, in honor of Professor Maurice Holt on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. There were more than two dozen participants from eleven countries. They were either his past students or his colleagues whose careers crossed his at some point. The twenty-one papers in this volume are the written version of the presentations at this Symposium; they are mostly in the area of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), a field in which Professor Holt is a pioneer. These papers cover almost all aspects of CFD including numerical analysis, symbolic analysis, and grid genera tion. They cover diverse ...
Computational methods and modelling is of growing importance in fundamental science as well as in applications in industry and in environmental research. In this topical volume the readers find important contributions in the field of turbulent boundary layers, the Tsunami problem, group invariant solution of hydrodynamic equations, non-linear waves, modelling of the problem of evaporation-condensation, the exact solution of discrete models of the Boltzmann equation etc. The book addresses researchers and engineers both in the mechanical sciences and in scientific computing.
Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology, Volume 6 provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of nuclear science and technology. This book covers a variety of topics, including nuclear steam generator, oscillations, fast reactor fuel, gas centrifuge, thermal transport system, and fuel cycle. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the high standards of technical safety for Europe's first nuclear-propelled merchant ship. This text then examines the state of knowledge concerning qualitative results on the behavior of the solutions of the nonlinear point kinetics equations with linear feedback. Other chapters consider the mathematical methods used in the calculations and outline the main features peculiar to fast systems. This book discusses as well the thermal transport in reactors. The final chapter deals with the status of nuclear energy in Western Europe, which depends on the development and introduction of reactor types that make a better use of the nuclear resources. This book is a valuable resource for reactor physicists.

Methods in Computational Physics, Volume 16: Controlled Fusion considers the full variety of computer models needed for the simulation of realistic fusion devices. These computer models include time-dependent magnetohydrodynamics, plasma transport in a magnetic field, MHD and guiding-center equilibria, MHD stability of confinement systems, Vlasov and particle models, and multispecies Fokker-Planck codes. This volume is divided into 11 chapters. The first three chapters discuss various aspects of the numerical solution of the equations of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). The subsequent chapters present the more realistic models, including the thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity. Other ...
