During the last five years, after the first meeting on “Quaternionic Structures in Mathematics and Physics”, interest in quaternionic geometry and its applications has continued to increase. Progress has been made in constructing new classes of manifolds with quaternionic structures (quaternionic Kähler, hyper-Kähler, hyper-complex, etc.), studying the differential geometry of special classes of such manifolds and their submanifolds, understanding relations between the quaternionic structure and other differential-geometric structures, and also in physical applications of quaternionic geometry. Some generalizations of classical quaternion-like structures (like HKT structures and hyper-Kähler manifolds with singularities) appeared naturally and were studied. Some of those results are published in this book.
This book covers the topics of differential manifolds, Riemannian metrics, connections, geodesics and curvature, with special emphasis on the intrinsic features of the subject. It treats in detail classical results on the relations between curvature and topology. The book features numerous exercises with full solutions and a series of detailed examples are picked up repeatedly to illustrate each new definition or property introduced.
This volume constitutes the proceedings of a workshop whose main purpose was to exchange information on current topics in complex analysis, differential geometry, mathematical physics and applications, and to group aspects of new mathematics.
The volume contains the texts of the main talks delivered at the International Symposium on Complex Geometry and Analysis held in Pisa, May 23-27, 1988. The Symposium was organized on the occasion of the sixtieth birthday of Edoardo Vesentini. This book contains the contributions by the participants in the nine of a series of workshops. Alfred Gray's work covered a great part of differential geometry. In September 2000, a remarkable International Congress on Differential Geometry was held in his memory in Bilbao, Spain. Mathematicians from all over the world, representing 24 countries, attended the event. This volume includes major contributions by well known mathematicians (T. Banchoff, S. Donaldson, H. This book arose out of original research on the extension of well-established applications of complex numbers related to Euclidean geometry and to the space-time symmetry of two-dimensional Special Relativity. The system of hyperbolic numbers is extensively studied, and a plain exposition of space-time geometry and trigonometry is given. Commutative hypercomplex systems with four unities are studied and attention is drawn to their interesting properties.
