To tackle the challenges of the road estimation task, many works employ a fusion of multiple sources. By that, a commonly made assumption is that the sources always are equally reliable. However, this assumption is inappropriate since each source has certain advantages and drawbacks depending on the operational scenarios. Therefore, Tuan Tran Nguyen proposes a novel concept by incorporating reliabilities into the multi-source fusion so that the road estimation task can alternately select only the most reliable sources. Thereby, the author estimates the reliability for each source online using classifiers trained with the sensor measurements, the past performance and the context. Using real d...
Reinforcement Learning is a promising tool to automate controller tuning. However, significant extensions are required for real-world applications to enable fast and robust learning. This work proposes several additions to the state of the art and proves their capability in a series of real world experiments.
Radar target simulators (RTSs) deceive a radar under test (RuT) by creating an artificial environment consisting of virtual radar targets. In this work, new techniques are presented that overcome the rasterization deficiency of current RTS systems and enable the generation of virtual targets at arbitrary high-precision positions. This allows for continuous movement of the targets and thus a more credible simulation environment.

This book offers fascinating insights into the key technical and scientific developments in the history of radar, from the first patent, taken out by Hülsmeyer in 1904, through to the present day. Landmark events are highlighted and fascinating insights provided into the exceptional people who made possible the progress in the field, including the scientists and technologists who worked independently and under strict secrecy in various countries across the world in the 1930s and the big businessmen who played an important role after World War II. The book encourages multiple levels of reading. The author is a leading radar researcher who is ideally placed to offer a technical/scientific perspective as well as a historical one. He has taken care to structure and write the book in such a way as to appeal to both non-specialists and experts. The book is not sponsored by any company or body, either formally or informally, and is therefore entirely unbiased. The text is enriched by approximately three hundred images, most of which are original and have been accessed by detailed searches in the archives.
The increasing automation of driving functions and the electrification of powertrains present new challenges for the chassis with regard to complexity, redundancy, data security, and installation space. At the same time, the mobility of the future will also require entirely new vehicle concepts, particularly in urban areas. The intelligent chassis must be connected, electrified, and automated in order to be best prepared for this future. Contents New Chassis Systems.- Handling and Vehicle Dynamics.- NVH – Acoustics and Vibration in the Chassis.- Smart Chassis, ADAS, and Autonomous Driving.- Lightweight Design.- Innovative Brake Systems.- Brakes and the Environment.- Electronic Chassis Syst...
This book takes a look at fully automated, autonomous vehicles and discusses many open questions: How can autonomous vehicles be integrated into the current transportation system with diverse users and human drivers? Where do automated vehicles fall under current legal frameworks? What risks are associated with automation and how will society respond to these risks? How will the marketplace react to automated vehicles and what changes may be necessary for companies? Experts from Germany and the United States define key societal, engineering, and mobility issues related to the automation of vehicles. They discuss the decisions programmers of automated vehicles must make to enable vehicles to ...
This book aims to teach the core concepts that make Self-driving vehicles (SDVs) possible. It is aimed at people who want to get their teeth into self-driving vehicle technology, by providing genuine technical insights where other books just skim the surface. The book tackles everything from sensors and perception to functional safety and cybersecurity. It also passes on some practical know-how and discusses concrete SDV applications, along with a discussion of where this technology is heading. It will serve as a good starting point for software developers or professional engineers who are eager to pursue a career in this exciting field and want to learn more about the basics of SDV algorith...
