Child Sexual Abuse Inquiries and the Catholic Church: Reassessing the Evidence

This book is an objective, evidence-based analysis of the empirical findings, methodologies and conclusions of the main inquiries into child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in Europe, the US/Canada, the UK and Australasia. Based on the evidence in these official inquiries it concludes that child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in these countries, while widespread from 1960-1990 is largely an historical problem; there are relatively few instances of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in recent decades. Safe-guarding mechanisms introduced into the Catholic Church since the 1990s have been effective in curbing child sexual abuse. The analysis in this book stands in contrast to sensationalistic, uninformed media reporting on the problem. The book is a second revised and expanded edition, with previously unreleased content.

Walking Together on the Way is the first agreed statement of the third phase of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission, and the first ARCIC agreed statement since 2005. The language of 'walking together' is used by both Archbishop Justin Welby and Pope Francis to describe our ecclesial life and the ecumenical journey. Both have also, in different ways, endorsed the approach of receptive ecumenism: that we have much to learn and much to receive from each other. In Walking Together on the Way the Commission asks what Anglicans and Catholics can learn from one another to make us better able to walk together in the way of communion. Both our communions have an understanding that al...

Written by experts from within their communities, this book compares the legal regimes of Christian churches as systems of religious law. The ecumenical movement, with its historical theological focus, has failed to date to address the role of church law in shaping relations between churches and fostering greater mutual understanding between them. In turn, theologians and jurists from the different traditions have not hitherto worked together on a fully ecumenical appreciation of the potential value of church laws to help, and sometimes to hinder, the achievement of greater Christian unity. This book seeks to correct this ecumenical church law deficit. It takes account of the recent formulat...
