Salt of the Earth
In this sequel to the novel, Southern Gospel, the residents of Truman County are forced to deal with the fallout from a sensational murder. The fact that the victim is one of the most prominent citizens of the county is shocking enough but when an arrest is made for the crime, its an even bigger surprise. As is to be expected, speculation abounds concerning motive and method. A wide variety of the county population, ranging from teenagers to senior citizens, becomes involved in the investigation and subsequent trial which is not a typical one even by Truman County standards. Against this background, Old Man Teke Thomas and Vern L. Upshaw two well-known Truman County men - are forced to deal with problems of their own, problems that in their own way will have great effects on the general welfare of Truman County. And, as was shown in Southern Gospel, Old Man Teke and Vern L. have their own unique approaches to the solutions of those problems.

The original records on file in Isle of Wight County and abstracted in this work are: Wills and Administrations Book A (1641-1650); Will and Deed Books 1 and 2 (1658-1659, 1666-1719); Will Books 3-11 (1726-1800); Deed Book I (1691-1695); Administrations and Probates (1666-1701); and The Great Book (1719-1729). In addition to the names of the testators and legatees, the entries provide the names of executors, securities, and witnesses and frequently include assignments of property.
Navidad Country -
Volume 1 - Lyons to Mulberry During the 1800's, the area along and between the East and West Navidad Rivers in Texas was known as the Navidad Country. A majority of the pioneers came from the Old South, some arriving with Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred. Once settled, they proceeded to clear the land, till the soil and build homes and towns. The aftermath of the Civil War brought great change and loss to these once prosperous people. History of Edgefield County from the Earliest Settlements to 1897
While most every county has a county history which was a life-long labor of love for someone and is generally of little interest beyond inhabitants of the county, Edgefield County, SC is unique for several reasons: 1. It was the end of the Great Wagon Road which stretched from New England all the way down the east coast. 2. Edgefield District once comprised much of the upstate of South Carolina. Augusta, GA at the navigable head of the Savannah River became the major trading post for the Indians and later the corridor for shipping products to market through Savannah. 3. Edgefield has played a key part in the politics of South Carolina and indeed for the entire country. From the earliest times before the Civil War, James Henry Hammond's "Cotton is King" set the narrative for much that followed leading up to Secession. Sen. Strom Thurmond dominated the political scene for most of the 20th Century. Edgefield County boasts 8 governors and 6 senators.
