Graphic Expositions of Social Processes. Nadine Fecht (b. Mannheim, 1976; lives and works in Berlin) creates large-format tableaus and murals based on notational systems. The fascination of her graphemic drawings derives from their complexity and the manifold associations they elicit, bringing to mind the monotonous hum of chanted mantras and the murmur of believers saying the rosary, but also the repetitive actions of a maniac. Recognizably inspired by the oeuvre of Hanne Darboven, Fecht's works nonetheless unfold a distinctive personal epistemic interest. Where Darboven tallied the labor of writing done on a given day as a discrete unit of accomplishment, Fecht inquires into social systems...

The Loss Library

What happens when a story goes missing or remains unrecorded? When a writer carelessly gives his plot away during a conversation or dies before writing the ending? These stories end up in the Loss Library, where the books that have never been written are kept. In this poignant, thought-provoking book, one of South Africa’s fi nest writers examines eleven of his own lost fictions, how the ideas arose and why he abandoned them. But this reflection on the art of writing is not a lament for unfinished work. Rather The Loss Library is a meditation on creativity, mortality and the allure of the incomplete.

Co-published by Stichting Lon Pennock and Jap Sam Books, this attractive hardcover survey catalog brings together over 100 pieces from the playful, poetic body of work of Dutch artist Lon Pennock (b. 1945). By investigating simple forms seemingly borrowed from objective reality, Lon Pennock developed an aesthetic language which draws solely on such geometric elements as the rectangular solid, the cube, the cone or the cylinder. As co-author Frits Scholten remarks, Often in Pennocks oeuvre, movement and peripety are created through the use of diagonalsin sculpture, always a classic way to break through the stagnation and to suggest Iife.
