Thomas Woolner was born on 17th December 1825 in Hadleigh, Suffolk. He was primarily a sculptor and a part-time art dealer but also a founding member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and, over time, a noted poet. The poems here are excellent examples of Pre-Raphaelite poetry and brought praise from many including the very well thought of Victorian Poet Coventry Patmore. Parts of them were initially printed in the Pre-Raphaelites magazine 'The Germ' in 1850 before being expanded and published, as a whole, in 1863.
