This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 17th International GI/ITG Conference on Measurement, Modeling and Evaluation of Computing Systems and Dependability and Fault-Tolerance, MMB & DFT 2014, held in Bamberg, Germany, in March 2014. The 21 papers presented (2 invited papers, 3 tool papers and 16 full papers) were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. MMB & DFT 2014 cover all aspects of performance and dependability evaluation of systems including networks, computer architectures, distributed systems, workflow systems, software, fault-tolerant and secure systems. The conference also featured 3 satellite workshops namely the International Workshop on Demand Modeling and Quantitative Analysis of Future Generation Energy Networks and Energy-Efficient Systems, FGENET 2014; the International Workshop on Modeling, Analysis and Management of Social Networks and their Applications, SOCNET 2014 and the 2nd Workshop on Network Calculus, WoNeCa 2014.
The advancement of key technologies in communication, such as optical and radio transmission, coding schemes, switching mechanisms etc. , has meant that communication networks are quickly growing to a larger-scale and higher speed than was ever anticipated. In terms of usage, Internet and real-time ap plications are expected to share a significant portion of the bandwidth in the next-generation of communication networks. Therefore, in order to achieve seamless and Quality of Service (QoS)-guaranteed transmission, regardless of source characteristics, extensive research into networking technologies is es sential. For the proper design, development and operation of emerging ideas on networking...
Matrix-analytic and related methods have become recognized as an important and fundamental approach for the mathematical analysis of general classes of complex stochastic models. Research in the area of matrix-analytic and related methods seeks to discover underlying probabilistic structures intrinsic in such stochastic models, develop numerical algorithms for computing functionals (e.g., performance measures) of the underlying stochastic processes, and apply these probabilistic structures and/or computational algorithms within a wide variety of fields. This volume presents recent research results on: the theory, algorithms and methodologies concerning matrix-analytic and related methods in ...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Innovations for Community Services, I4CS 2021, held in Bamberg, Germany, in May 2021 as a hybrid event. The 14 full papers and 2 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 43 submissions. One short invited paper is also included. The papers focus on topics such as services for critical infrastructure; network architecture for communities; applications and services supporting work and life; community data and visualization; technology empowers industry processes; and future community support.
Papers presented at a workshop held January 1990 (location unspecified) cover just about all aspects of solving Markov models numerically. There are papers on matrix generation techniques and generalized stochastic Petri nets; the computation of stationary distributions, including aggregation/disaggregation.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 19th International GI/ITG Conference on Measurement, Modelling and Evaluation of Computing Systems, MMB 2018, held in Erlangen, Germany, in February 2018. The 16 full papers, 4 PhD track papers, and 9 tool papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 42 submissions. They are dealing with performance and dependability evaluation techniques for computer and communication systems and its related fields.

With the increasing worldwide trend in population migration into urban centers, we are beginning to see the emergence of the kinds of mega-cities which were once the stuff of science fiction. It is clear to most urban planners and developers that accommodating the needs of the tens of millions of inhabitants of those megalopolises in an orderly and uninterrupted manner will require the seamless integration of and real-time monitoring and response services for public utilities and transportation systems. Part speculative look into the future of the world’s urban centers, part technical blueprint, this visionary book helps lay the groundwork for the communication networks and services on which tomorrow’s “smart cities” will run. Written by a uniquely well-qualified author team, this book provides detailed insights into the technical requirements for the wireless sensor and actuator networks required to make smart cities a reality.
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 27th International Conference on Computer Networks, CN 2020, held in June 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held virtually. The 14 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 34 submissions. They are organized according to the topical sections on computer networks; cybersecurity and quality of service; queueing theory and queueing networks.
This book lays out the theoretical groundwork for personalized search and reputation management, both on the Web and in peer-to-peer and social networks. Representing much of the foundational research in this field, the book develops scalable algorithms that exploit the graphlike properties underlying personalized search and reputation management, and delves into realistic scenarios regarding Web-scale data. Sep Kamvar focuses on eigenvector-based techniques in Web search, introducing a personalized variant of Google's PageRank algorithm, and he outlines algorithms--such as the now-famous quadratic extrapolation technique--that speed up computation, making personalized PageRank feasible. Kam...
