This book shows the many different paintings within the painting 'Micro/Macro World'. Comprised of Platinum-Cured Silicone Rubber, these 238 panels reach a combined weight of 2000 kilos, measuring 7 x 10 meters. The painting was produced in Van Arkel's studio between October 2010 and April 2011. Throughout this process, the silicone has been transformed from a static and industrial material into vigorous aggradations that have no limits. This is a site-specific work for the bus terminal in Jakobsberg, Stockholm. Commissioned by SL, Stockholm Transport.

The book 'Read the painting' shows 238 panels, which like a puzzle form one big artwork by the Swedish artist Matthias van Arkel. Each panel is illustrated as a close-up and can be considered as a painting in itself. The result is that you 'read' through the work like an abstract narrative that together form an interpretable content. The book shows one of two monumental wall paintings, which were installed in Jacobsberg's new bus terminal in 2011 commissioned by SL (Stockholm public transport). Approximately 2000 kg of dyed platinum silicone rubber was used.
Jo Van Arkel works in the realm of the small and peripheral. Her stories take us to our most fleeting moments of recognition and remembering. Her characters balance, sometimes uneasily, on the line between reason and mania, restraint and desire.
