In this Handbook, Reinhard Stockmann and other esteemed experts in the field provide a systematic and comprehensive exploration into the planning, process, implementation and utilisation of evaluations. Covering the process and individual steps of evaluation in detail, in chronological order and in terms of practical application, it identifies the characteristics and standards that distinguish a professionally and competently conducted evaluation.
Aimed at readers with a limited knowledge in the field of evaluation techniques and who want to study further, this volume will serve all those who conduct evaluations themselves, as well as decision-makers who commission evaluations and those who are evaluated. All stakeholders of an evaluation should know about the characteristics and standards of a professional and competently implemented evaluation. The book offers a basic introduction to the foundations and the benefits of this type of investigation as well as a comparison of different evaluation approaches. It also deals with the practical organisation of evaluations and presents a general overview of possible evaluation designs. After...

Classical Concert Studies: A Companion to Contemporary Research and Performance is a landmark publication that maps out a new interdisciplinary field of Concert Studies, offering fresh ways of understanding the classical music concert in the twenty-first century. It brings together essays, research articles, and case studies from scholars and music professionals including musicians, music managers, and concert designers. Gathering both historical and contemporary cases, the contributors draw on approaches from sociology, ethnology, musicology, cultural studies, and other disciplines to create a rich portrait of the classical concert’s past, present, and future. Based on two earlier volumes published in German under the title Das Konzert (The Concert), and with a selection of new chapters written for the English edition, this companion enables students, researchers, and practitioners in the classical and contemporary music fields to understand this emerging field of research, go beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries and methodologies, and spark a renaissance for the classical concert.
Although many studies are available on visitors to cultural institutions, the infrequent or non-visitors are largely unexplored. However, they make up the majority of the population. Their motivation for not visiting is therefore the focus of this volume. This volume provides an in-depth overview of the international state of nonvisitor research. Building on this, extensive quantitative and qualitative analyses are conducted on reasons for non-visitation. This is followed by an empirically based, practice-oriented theory of visitor attraction. The authors thus present the first comprehensive work on non-visitor research in Germany. This book is a translation of the original German 1st editio...
Are artists seismographs during processes of transformation? Is theatre a mirror of society? And how does it influence society offstage? To address these questions, this collection brings together analyses of cultural policy in post-apartheid South Africa and actors of the performing arts discussing political theatre and cultural activism. Case studies grant inside views of the State Theatre in Pretoria, the Market Theatre in Johannesburg and the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town, followed by a documentation of panel discussions on the Soweto Theatre. The texts collected here bring to the surface new faces and voices who advance the performing arts with their images and lexicons revolving around topics such as patriarchy, femicide and xenophobia.
