The Birth of Vietnam

Vietnamese history prior to the tenth century has often been treated as a branch of Chinese history, but the Vietnamese side of the story can no longer be ignored. In this volume Keith Taylor draws on both Chinese and Vietnamese sources to provide a balanced view of the early history of Vietnam.

Evolution of agricultural mechanization in Vietnam: Insights from a literature review and multiple rounds of a farm household survey

Despite the reportedly rapid growth of mechanization, as well as its unique history in economic and social systems, information on the patterns of agricultural mechanization growth in Vietnam has been limited. Small groceries in Viet Nam

In many countries, the food environment is undergoing rapid change as economies grow and populations urbanize; a consequence is that a larger share of food consumed is purchased by the end consumer (de Bruin and Holleman 2023). Viet Nam is no different. Viet Nam’s growing and urbanizing economy has, over time, led to a changing food environment. This note focuses on one type of retailer in Viet Nam’s food environment: the small grocery. We define small groceries as stores th...

Fighting Censorship

Freedom of speech is one of the cornerstones of American liberty, but it was not always taken for granted as it is now. During the Vietnam War, the government made some choices the American public did not necessarily agree with. When the New York Times published articles detailing a war nobody knew about, it caused some waves in the United States government as it scrambled to cover up what it could and control what it couldn’t. This title gives a balanced report of what went on during this time and how the case made it to the Supreme Court. It also gives lots of detail on the differing opinions and what the ultimate decision was. Also included are questions to consider, primary source documents, and a chronology of the case.

International Politico - Cultural Influences on Vietnam in the 20Th Century

Geographically, historically and culturally Vietnam was profoundly influenced by Chinese culture due to more than 1,000 years under Chinese rule. Chinese influence was less important in Vietnam from 1884 to 1945 after the French occupied Cochinchina and established their protectorate in Tonkin and Annam. By the end of the 19th century almost all the Vietnamese resistance forces were defeated by the French. The Vietnamese revolutionaries looked for different paths of national liberation, and thought of foreign aid. Phan Boi Chau and Cuong De admired the Japanese reforms. He founded Phong Trao Dong Du (Journey to the East Movement). Phan Chu Trinh loved Western democracy and modernization in e...
