Esta obra, dividida en seis tomos, desarrolla la historia del derecho en Guatemala desde una visión analítica del jurista, es decir, a través de una lectura crítica de las normas jurídicas decretadas en el país en relación con el contexto histórico (estructuras sociales, políticas y económicas) y los procesos específicos circundantes al momento de su emisión. El sexto y último tomo inicia con una descripción de los sucesos representativos en torno a la firma de los Acuerdos de Paz y sus contenidos (reformas constitucionales, instituciones y normativas jurídicas), durante el Gobierno de Álvaro Arzú, en 1996. Luego, se hace una exposición de generalidades, planes de gobierno, logros, decretos y crisis de los mandatos del siglo XXI: el de Alfonso Portillo, Óscar Berger, Álvaro Colom, Otto Pérez Molina, Alejandro Maldonado y, para finalizar, Jimmy Morales.
