In Life?s Sustainability on Earth, Professor Kondratyev and his team show that the concept of biotic regulation is of fundamental importance in solving a wide range of environmental and other problems. They put forward a new approach to the solution of old environmental problems. Beginning with a look at the geographic environment and structural units within it, they show that ecosystems represent a set of homogeneous, closely- correlated communities of organisms and their environment. Biologists call such correlated communities ?biogeocenoses?, and they are similar to the corporate structures in economic systems and interact competitively with each other. On the basis of competitive interac...
Polymers are mainly characterized by molar mass, chemical composition, functionality and architecture. The determination of the complex structure of polymers by chromatographic and spectroscopic methods is one of the major concerns of polymer analysis and characterization. This lab manual describes the experimental approach to the chromatographic analysis of polymers. Different chromatographic methods, their theoretical background, equipment, experimental procedures and applications are discussed. The book will enable polymer chemists, physicists and material scientists as well as students of macromolecular and analytical science to optimize chromatographic conditions for a specific separation problem. Special emphasis is given to the description of applications for homo- and copolymers and polymer blends.
2007 marked the 20th anniversary of the G.H.Brundtland Commission report that broke new ground by addressing the issue of sustainable development as a means of avoiding an ecological catastrophe. This led to a multitude of political declarations, documents and scientific articles while Agenda 21 – adopted in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro – has been accepted by the governments of more than 100 countries. Sadly, however, this has not prevented certain recent dangerous trends, nor have the wider public, journalists, business circles or politicians grasped the urgency of the problem. It is therefore important to make humanity understand its real place in the natural environment and the gravity of t...
Sustaining the environment is high on the agenda of many Christian churches. Deeply rooted in biblical tradition, this book offers a unique perspective from this well-known author.
This book is an introduction to the perturbation theory for linear and nonlinear waves in dispersive and dissipative media. The main focus is on the direct asymptotic method which is based on the asymptotic expansion of the solution in series of one or more small parameters and demanding finiteness of the perturbations; this results in slow variation of the main-order solution. The method, which does not depend on integrability of basic equations, is applied to quasi-harmonic and non-harmonic periodic waves, as well as to localized waves such as solitons, kinks, and autowaves. The basic theoretical ideas are illustrated by many physical examples throughout the book.

Details the principles and mechanisms of, and the equipment and optimal working conditions for, the liquid-chromatographic separation of well-defined oligomeric species and fraction with narrow molecular weight distribution. The work provides a complete description of the applications and possible performance of liquid chromatography in the field of oligomer separation.
This book elucidates the peculiar phenomenon of entropy/enthalpy compensation that takes place in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) of polymers. Numerous publications, including some books, are devoted to molecular characterization of synthetic polymers, materials presently produced in large and steadily growing quantities, applying methods of HPLC. A knowledge of the molecular characteristics of polymers is indispensable, not only for their proper applications but also for their recycling and remediation. Polymer scientists generally focus on synthesis and potential applications of polymers while not giving due attention to an important central link, their comprehensive characte...
