William Wilkinson was British Consul to the principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia, appointed to Bucharest by the Levant Company in 1813; he was recalled in 1816. He wrote this book "An Account of the Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia: With Various Political Observations Relating to Them" in 1820. Russia on the Danube

Russia on the Danube describes the divergent interests and uneasy cooperation between the Russian officials and the Moldavian and Wallachian nobility in a key period between 1812 and 1834. Victor Taki’s meticulous examination of the plans and memoranda composed by Russian administrators and the Romanian elite underlines the crucial consequences of this encounter. Mircea the Old

Mircea the Old, one of the greatest leaders in Romanian history, comes to life in this beautiful new book. Although his grandson, Vlad the Impaler, better known as Dracula, has acquired much greater international fame, Mircea the Old was the most significant ruler to sit on the throne of the small principality of Wallachia during the Middle Ages. Mircea the Old, during his long reign from 1386 to 1418, consolidated the political and administrative structure of his principality and maintained its freedom at the time of its most significant peril. He defeated the mighty Ottoman Empire, the greatest power of his day, in the battle of Rovine in 1394 and made his small country a major force in in...
