Tender Noted is a meditation on the intersection of desire, mourning, and listening to one's skin while coming to understand the practice of love. This interdisciplinary work brings together images from Miller's filmic and photographic practice, informed by and given voice to by Miller's writing. The book's organizing principle is the echo: between text and image and between bodies and the stages, rooms, and affects they inhabit.

"Every Monday in 2017 and 2019, comedic performance artist Morgan Bassichis created a to-do list. The Odd Years is a collection of those lists, which served both as a way to generate material for live performances and as a place to archive the logistical, emotional, and political business that just kept piling up throughout this two-year project. A record of routine and impossible tasks--some completed and others left unfinished--The Odd Years is one response to the oddness of times in which intensified crisis becomes ordinary"--Publisher's website.

Marking the Occasion

Literary Nonfiction. Art. Performance Studies. Dance. MARKING THE OCCASION represents the final movement in a year-long engagement with the question, "Can a performance be a rough draft of a written work?" In this case, the rough draft took place at Mount Tremper Arts during a 2019 Watershed Residency. Taking the practices of choreography and co-writing as methods of investigation, curator-editors Jaime Shearn Coan and Tara Aisha Willis introduce new trajectories for live work and text by bringing together dance and performance artists from across the US who occupy multiple roles within art economies and in whose work language and writing are prevalent. Exploring a multiplicity of lived, embodied experiences within a single event, MARKING THE OCCASION gathers together archival materials from the residency alongside new contributions from participants David Thomson, Julie Tolentino, Mariana Valencia, Takahiro Yamamoto, and Mlondi Zondi. The publication also marks the events of 2020, and traces their reverberations through each artist's practice as time, movement, action, and collaboration take on new meanings.

Fiction. Poetry. Women's Studies. Art. Film. Performance Studies. A character called X journeys through a present that is neither here nor there, but feels oddly proximate. She moves through landscapes of words, ever-shifting to host the groundless present, a place and time driven by her motivated, yet contextless pursuit. Narrative is always under construction. The preferred medium for X's peregrinations: a sentence, as capacious as a three-second video, a ten-year nap, or an unexplored hard drive. In this suspended world, X's sensorium is curious and alert, but also anguished, hesitant, and precarious: she feels around for sympathetic energies and familiar faces along the way. Along what w...

"Ritual and Capital is an expansive volume gathering a range of voices, accounts, and contributions across genres. The poems, essays, and artworks included in this anthology explore the habits and practices formed to subvert, subsist, and survive under capital. Is there refuge in ritual? How might ritual practices endow objects and artifacts with qualities that resist their assimilation within the market? What function can movement rituals have for embodying practices of healing and care? How does ritual strengthen and solidify communities? In what ways have ritual practices turned the landscape of the everyday into a playground for consumption, where ritual enables the reproduction of struc...

Poetry. Drama. African & African American Studies. Glaring: a sustained look of anger, an obvious fact, a situation of such brightness and intensity that vision is obscured. In his debut book of poems, Benjamin Krusling is concerned with reading domination and violence and entering their psychotic motion, the better to do otherwise. Through the thicket of anti-blackness, militarism, surveillance, impoverishment, and interpersonal abuse and violence, GLARING investigates the things that haunt daily life and make love difficult, possible, necessary.

Sacred Bloodlines

What happens when you find out all the horror you've seen in the world is more than just bad luck? When you find out there is a boogyman? For as long as Gabe can remember, his life had been plagued by haunting images and tragic events. It seemed like everyone he knew or loved was doomed for a life of misery or death. He was starting to come to the same conclusion everyone else had--he must be cursed. Until one day, in a subway tunnel, everything suddenly changed. A horrific disaster led him to a strange new person named Uri. Uri introduced Gabe to an exciting new world filled with angels, demons, magic, and best of all, a beautiful girl named Sophie. This chance at a new life had everything Gabe always longed for: a family, friends, and possibly even love. He soon discovered, though, that this life came at a steep price. One he feared might cost him his life. A prophecy places Gabe in the middle of a choice he could have never imagined he would have to make. He finds out the creatures that have haunted his nightmares are actually real and only the Guardians stand between them and the rest of the world.
