Programming Languages and Systems
This open access book constitutes the proceedings of the 32nd European Symposium on Programming, ESOP 2023, which was held during April 22-27, 2023, in Paris, France, as part of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software, ETAPS 2023. The 20 regular papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 55 submissions. They deal with fundamental issues in the specification, design, analysis, and implementation of programming languages and systems.
Automated Verification of Concurrent Search Structures
Search structures support the fundamental data storage primitives on key-value pairs: insert a pair, delete by key, search by key, and update the value associated with a key. Concurrent search structures are parallel algorithms to speed access to search structures on multicore and distributed servers. These sophisticated algorithms perform fine-grained synchronization between threads, making them notoriously difficult to design correctly. Indeed, bugs have been found both in actual implementations and in the designs proposed by experts in peer-reviewed publications. The rapid development and deployment of these concurrent algorithms has resulted in a rift between the algorithms that can be verified by the state-of-the-art techniques and those being developed and used today. The goal of this book is to show how to bridge this gap in order to bring the certified safety of formal verification to high-performance concurrent search structures. Similar techniques and frameworks can be applied to concurrent graph and network algorithms beyond search structures.
FM 2016: Formal Methods
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 21st International Symposium on Formal Methods, FM 2016, held in Limassol, Cyprus, in November 2016. The 38 full papers and 11 short papers presented together with one abstract of an invited talk and one invited presentation were carefully reviewed and selected from 162 submissions. The broad topics of interest for FM include: interdisciplinary formal methods; formal methods in practice; tools for formal methods; role of formal methods in software and systems engineering; theoretical foundations.
Verification, Model Checking, and Abstract Interpretation
The book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Verification, Model Checking, and Abstract Interpretation, VMCAI 2007, held in Nice, France in January 2007. This event was co-located with the Symposium on Principles of Programming Languages (POPL 2007). The 21 revised full papers presented together with three invited lectures and three invited tutorials were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 85 submissions.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Verification, Model Checking, and Abstract Interpretation, VMCAI 2011, held in Austin, TX, USA, in January 2011, co-located with the Symposium on Principles of Programming Languages, POPL 2011. The 24 revised full papers presented together with 4 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 71 initial submissions. The papers showcases state-of-the-art research in areas such as verification, model checking, abstract interpretation and address any programming paradigm, including concurrent, constraint, functional, imperative, logic and object-oriented programming. Further topics covered are static analysis, deductive methods, program certification, debugging techniques, abstract domains, type systems, and optimization.
Frontiers of Combining Systems
This volume contains the proceedings of the 7th International Symposium of Frontiers of Combining Systems (FroCoS 2009) held during September 16-18, 2009 in Trento, Italy. Previous FroCoS meetings were organized in Munich (1996), Amsterdam (1998), Nancy (2000), Santa Margherita Ligure (2002), - enna (2005), and Liverpool (2007). Computer Aided Verification
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Computer Aided Verification. Thirty-three state-of-the-technology papers are presented, together with fourteen tool papers, three invited papers, and four invited tutorials. All the current issues in computer aided verification and model checking—from foundational and methodological issues to the evaluation of major tools and systems—are addressed.
FM 2009: Formal Methods
th FM 2009, the 16 International Symposium on Formal Methods, marked the 10th an- versary of the First World Congress on Formal Methods that was held in 1999 in Toulouse, France. We wished to celebrate this by advertising and organizing FM 2009 as the Second World Congress in the FM series, aiming to once again bring together the formal methods communities from all over the world. The statistics displayed in the table on the next page include the number of countries represented by the Programme Committee members, as well as of the authors of submitted and accepted papers. Novel this year was a special track on tools and industrial applications. Subm- sions of papers on these topics were especially encouraged, but not given any special treatment. (It was just as hard to get a special track paper accepted as any other paper.) What we did promote, however, was a discussion of how originality, contri- tion, and soundness should be judged for these papers. The following questions were used by our Programme Committee.
Foundations of Software Science and Computational Structures
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Foundations of Software Science and Computational Structures, FOSSACS 2010, held in Paphos, Cyprus, in March 2010, as part of ETAPS 2010, the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. The 25 revised full papers presented together with the abstract of the keynote lecture were carefully reviewed and selected from 86 full paper submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on semantics of programming languages, probabilistic and randomised computation, concurrency and process theory, modal and temporal logics, verification, categorical and coalgebraic methods, as well as lambda calculus and types.
