The earliest known member of this family, Marx (Markus) Engelhorn (1580-1650), was born in Hockenheim, Baden, Germany. The common ancestor of all the Engelhorns who came to Allamakee Co., Iowa between 1847 and 1866 was, Johann Marcus Engelhorn II (1782-1869), who was Bürger, farmer and magistrate in Altlussheim, Germany. He stayed in Germany. His oldest son, Johann Thomas III, also stayed in Germany, but eight of his nine surviving children immigrated to America as well as four Johann Thomas's siblings. Family members and descendants live in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, California, Oregon and elsewhere.

Alice Everett Johnson was born 24 February 1899 in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were Edward Everett Johnson (1864-1937) and Mary Fry Lewis (1859-1938). She married Willard Marshall Bollenbach (1897-1993) 8 September 1923 in St. Paul, Minnesota. They had two children. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in England, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Minnesota.

Ephraim Durham immigrated to America, probably from England, sometime before December 1672, when he was granted a plot of land at Guilford, Connecticut. He married Elizabeth Goodrich (1653-after Oct. 1725) at Guilford in 1678. They had six children, 1680-1694. Ephraim died at Guilford in 1725. Descendants lived in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa and elsewhere. Some descendants spell their surname: Darrin, Darwin, Dorwin, Durrin and other variants spellings.
