The "Wonders" surname is not a common one and when encountered, it frequently arouses curiosity as to its origin. The author has spent over three decades attempting to solve this puzzle. Its earliest documented presence is in Northumberland in Northeastern England in the mid-seventeenth century. However, he is convinced that it evolved from a much earlier presence as "Winders" with an origin in Cumbria in Northwestern England, dating as far back as the twelfth century. From the Forward, Life can be viewed as a rat race full of drudgery and reactive responses -- or instead -- a wondrous journey, full of twists, turns and experiences which awaken our senses and spirituality in new ways. In The Wonder of It All, William Judge shares the inspirations of his life experiences and profound reflections that have shaped his view of the world around him. His incredibly beautiful and descriptive moments of joy and awakening make one stop and pause to capture and share the moment. This is a collection of stories that will make you think and look at every aspect of your life differently, about embracing the joys and wonders of life, and the importance of achieving spiritual peace and the fullness of a life well lived. -Linda Gardner Crandall

Canada's Changing North

When Canada's Changing North was first published in 1971, it quickly became a popular and reliable overview of the geography and culture of the Canadian North. This revised and expanded edition provides a new generation with a comprehensive and up-to-date introduction to the Canadian North and outlines how this region has become increasingly integrated into both the Canadian national fabric and the world.Among the many recent developments explored in Canada's Changing North is the legal recognition of aboriginal rights by the Canadian state, which has...

The body is increasingly understood as being at the centre of colonial and post-colonial relationships and textual productions. Creating and circulating images of the undisciplined body of the 'other' was and is a critical aspect of colonialism. Likewise, resistance to colonial practices was also frequently corporeal, with indigenous peoples appropriating, parodying, and subverting those European practices which were used to signify the 'civilized' status of the colonizing body. The Body in the Library reads representations of the corporeal in texts of empire; case studies include: - gendered representations of corporeality - medical regimes - ethnography and photography in the Pacific - cul...
