A Bibliography of Conceptual Writing

The first ""final"" version of a never-ending project, a bibliography of conceptual literature - not just appropriation-based conceptualism, but also relatively ""rigorous"" forms of flarf, concrete poetry and so on. Like the editors of the anthology ""I'll Drown My Book: Conceptual Writing by Women,"" I consider a more inclusive definition. At least in my version (and I invite other people to continue it if they can/want to), there are more than a thousand books and hundreds of authors included from different countries, nationalities, genders - as different as it is possible for now, of course. Authors are sorted alphabetically, books by the same author chronologically. More about the process and about my views on conceptualism can be found in the opening of the book. For free PDF check http: //khora-impex.com/. P.S. The file of v1.0 did not make it through Lulu printers, sorry to those of you who ordered it. This (sadly, b&w) version contains corrections and additions.

TEXTUL ESTE INSOTIT de DESENE in CULORI!

Book Presence in a Digital Age

Contrary to the apocalyptic pronouncements of paper media's imminent demise in the digital age, there has been a veritable surge of creative reimaginings of books as bearers of the literary. From typographic experiments (Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves, Steven Hall's The Raw Shark Texts) to accordion books (Anne Carson's Nox), from cut ups (Jonathan Safran Foer's Tree of Codes) to collages (Graham Rawle's Woman's World), from erasures (Mary Ruefle's A Little White Shadow) to mixups (Simon Morris's The Interpretations of Dreams), print literature has gone through anything but a slow, inevitable death. In fact, it has re-invented itself materially. Starting from this idea of media plural...

THE RELIGION TOOLKIT A comprehensive survey of the study of religion worldwide, from ancient indigenous traditions to today’s religious nationalism. “This is an excellent book that is a good, comprehensive overview of the history of religions and the ways of studying religion within Religious Studies... it really brings religions to life for the reader.” —Gavin Flood, Professor of Hindu Studies and Comparative Religion, Oxford University “The authors provide a clear, first-rate introduction to the study of religions, origins, leading scholars and their theories and beliefs.... There is no common understanding of the concept of the human mind, its changes in different historical epochs, forecasts for development, or its influence on the phenomena of art and culture. The connection between the evolution of the mind, anatomical changes, and social organization are not clear. Through the theory of self-organization of complex systems, the essence of cultural changes in different historical periods and solutions to practical questions in the theory of art and design are better understood. Self-Organization of the Human Mind and the Transition From Paleolithic to Behavioral Modernity is a critical scholarly resource that examines the development of human consciousness a...

Essays on Paula Rego: Smile When You Think about Hell

  • Categories: Art

In these powerful and stylishly written essays, Maria Manuel Lisboa dissects the work of Paula Rego, the Portuguese-born artist considered one of the greatest artists of modern times. Focusing primarily on Rego’s work since the 1980s, Lisboa explores the complex relationships between violence and nurturing, power and impotence, politics and the family that run through Rego’s art. Taking a historicist approach to the evolution of the artist’s work, Lisboa embeds the works within Rego’s personal history as well as Portugal’s (and indeed other nations’) stories, and reveals the interrelationship between political significance and the raw emotion that lies at the heart of Rego’s un...

Speaking East

A vibrant account of both the sensuous cultural scene of postwar Paris and the life of an alluring icon of modern art. Isidore Isou was a young Jew in wartime Bucharest who barely survived the Romanian Holocaust. He made his way to Paris, where, in 1945, he founded the avant-garde movement Lettrism, described as the missing link between Dada, Surrealism, Situationism, and May ’68. In Speaking East, Andrew Hussey presents a colorful picture of the postwar Left Bank, where Lettrist fists flew in avantgarde punch-ups in Jazz clubs and cafés, and where Isou—as sexy and as charismatic as the young Elvis—gathered around him a group of hooligan disciples who argued, drank, and had sex with the Parisian intellectual élite. This is a vibrant account of the life and times of a pivotal figure in the history of modern art.
