Selected Papers Of Wang Yuan

This volume presents a comprehensive collection of Wang Yuan's original important papers which are not available elsewhere, since the majority of the papers were published in China.Covering both pure number theory and applied mathematics, this book is important for understanding Wang Yuan's academic career and also the development of Chinese mathematics in recent years, since Wang Yuan's work has a wide-ranging influence in China.Wang Yuan is a professor and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received his honorable Doctorship from Hong Kong Baptist University. He has published 70 papers and ten books.

The Railpolitik

The growing presence of China in Africa has drawn increasing scholarly and public attention. With Beijing's announcement of the 'going global' policy in the early 2000s and further institutionalization through the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013, Chinese policy banks and state-owned companies have cooperated with African countries to finance and complete multiple infrastructure projects. These projects, despite their 'Chinese-ness,' demonstrate starkly different development trajectories in different countries. Why do some Chinese-financed and constructed projects develop better than others? And what explains the variation in the effectiveness of different African states with regard to publi...

The international symposium on number theory and analysis in memory of the late famous Chinese mathematician Professor Hua Loo Keng took place in August 1988 at the Tsinghua University in Beijing. Excellent survey lectures and expositions of the most recent results in number theory and analysis were given by experts from all over the world. While Volume I focuses on number theory, Volume II deals mainly with several complex variables, differential geometry and classical complex analysis. Both volumes also include two fascinating accounts of Professor Hua Loo Keng's life and work by Professor S. Iyanaga and Professor Wang Yuan. Highlights in Volume I: D.A. Hejhal: Eigenvalues of the Laplacian...

The distinguished mathematician, Hua Loo-Keng, led an eventful and interesting life through a particularly difficult period in China. This biography, originally published in Chinese in 1995, looks in detail at the transformation of Hua from a self-taught individual into a world-renown mathematician. Hua held a prominent position in the contemporary mathematics circle in China, and thus, this account of his life can be read as in invaluable historical evaluation of the development of mathematics in China, especially during tumultuous events such as the Cultural Revolution and the Great Leap Forward. Besides giving a vivid illustration of Hua's research work in number theory and of his attitude towards and philosophy behind the learning and teaching of mathematics, the author, a student and close friend of Hua's, delves into the latter's tireless efforts in popularizing mathematics in China until his death in 1985.

Number Theory and Its Applications in China

Of all modern mathematical forms, number theory is one of the earliest to be explored in China and is the one to which the Chinese have made their greatest contributions. Yan Wu-zhi first introduced number theory into China in the 1920s. Particularly influential in the field was Hua Loo-keng, who studied with G. H. Hardy and made significant contributions in the areas estimating complete exponential sums, Waring's problems, Tarry's problems, and Vinogradov's method. Interest in number theory continued to flourish following the founding of the People's Republic of China. The most noted accomplishments by Chinese mathematicians were focused on the solution of Goldbach's Conjecture and on the s...
