Have you ever given chance after chance to someone or something for it to work, but it still didn't? That was Natalia's problem, too. Her whole life was surrounded by false predications of what love was and looked like. Making it through adolescence, moving sixteen times, and never finding the real thing, Natalia was on the search for the true meaning of love. Love for herself, love for those around her, and maybe even, a special someone. But of course, finding the true meaning of love isn't an easy feat. Along the way, people leave, people hurt, people lie. For a young girl finding herself, that becomes all she knows. No matter the amount of chances she gave the idea of love, the same resulted: hurt and damage. This piece is for those who, like Natalia, don't fit into one box. For all of the overthinkers, the ones who never had it easy, those who yearn to see a way through, Natalia's journey of self-discovery is on display. But does she make it the whole way through? Does she ever discover the true meaning of love? Or, does her past come back to haunt her, never letting her win?

Grounded in painstaking research, To Defend the Revolution Is to Defend Culture revisits the circumstances which led to the arts being embraced at the heart of the Cuban Revolution. Introducing the main protagonists to the debate, this previously untold story follows the polemical twists and turns that ensued in the volatile atmosphere of the 1960s and ’70s. The picture that emerges is of a struggle for dominance between Soviet-derived approaches and a uniquely Cuban response to the arts under socialism. The latter tendency, which eventually won out, was based on the principles of Marxist humanism. As such, this book foregrounds emancipatory understandings of culture. To Defend the Revolut...

Personal Construct Psychology at 60

The 60th anniversary of the publication of George Kelly’s The Psychology of Personal Constructs was marked, in 2015, by the 21st International Congress on Personal Construct Psychology. His two volume work set out personal construct theory as a radical new approach to psychology. Although Kelly was a clinical psychologist, personal construct psychology has had an extraordinarily broad range of influence and application, extending beyond the clinical setting to include areas as diverse as education, organizational and management development, social psychology, the arts, law and politics. It presaged constructivist developments in many spheres of knowledge, and its innovative research methods have been used in a vast number of studies focussed on the exploration of personal and interpersonal meaning. The 21st International Congress was held in the UK at the University of Hertfordshire, forty years after the first such congress. This volume presents contributions by many of the Congress’s delegates, whose chapters reflect the diversity of contemporary applications of personal construct psychology, and the continuing relevance and vitality of Kelly’s ideas and methods.

Al Alvarez - poet, critic, novelist, sportsman, and poker player - has for seventy years been hard to categorize. He is the author of the best-selling study of suicide, THE SAVAGE GOD, and as poetry editor of the OBSERVER, he has known most of the leading poets of the second half of last century. For a time he was an influential critic and his anthology THE NEW POETRY scandalised the literary community. Much of the liveliness of Alvarez's story is inspired by the ambiguous fate of being an English Jew. Although his family had been settled in London for more than two centuries, being Jewish always made them feel like outsiders. From public schools to Oxford to the hardscrabble world of freelance writing, Alvarez found time to climb mountains, play poker and write books about these pastimes which are now regarded as classics. WHERE DID IT ALL GO RIGHT? is his memorable, irreverent account of that journey.

Advances in Biomembranes and Lipid Self-Assembly

Advances in Biomembranes and Lipid Self-assembly, Volume 31, formerly titled Advances in Planar Lipid Bilayers and Liposomes, provides a global platform for the study of cell membranes, lipid model membranes and lipid self-assemblies, from the micro- to the nanoscale. As planar lipid bilayers are widely studied due to their ubiquity in nature, this book presents research on their application in the formulation of biomimetic model membranes, and in the design of artificial dispersion of liposomes. Moreover, the book discusses how lipids self-assemble into a wide range of other structures, including micelles and the liquid crystalline hexagonal and cubic phases. Chapters in this volume present...

The Future of Coral Reefs Subject to Rapid Climate Change: Lessons from Natural Extreme Environments

Examination of corals and reef-associated organisms which endure in extreme coral reef environments is challenging our understanding of the conditions that organisms can survive under. By studying individuals naturally adapted to unfavorable conditions, we begin to better understand the important traits required to survive rapid environmental and climate change. This Research Topic, comprising reviews, and original research articles, demonstrates the current state of knowledge regarding the diversity of extreme coral habitats, the species that have been studied, and the knowledge to-date on the mechanisms, traits and trade-offs that have facilitated survival.
